RE: When will the dominoes fall?
I still say there are ACC teams that can be picked up by the Big 12, I don't care what kind of contract was signed.

Also, Kansas has value, in basketball, and K-State with the right coach has proven it can be a winner in football. Well with one coach, and he's oooooooollllllllllddddddd.........

If the big schools in the Big 12 don't like the options, they will bolt for other conferences. When that happens the Big 12 loss thier "P" status. When that happens I would expect the B1G and ACC to jump to 16 like the Pac 12 and SEC. So you would actually see the PAC 12 add 4 teams, which means the MWC may get hit, or Baylor and TCU got with Texas and Texas Tech.

It could just get all kinds of crazy up in here.

It sure could. all of that will surely roll down hill and be felt from the bottom up. A possible seismic shift in college football.

But will they ever really be up?

It seems that they may be renegotiated before the end of the terms.

Remember when the Big East refused to sign that HUGE TV contract because they thought they were worth more.. then crashed out/ lost the orange ball schools/ got a lot less money and lost their BCS "power" status?

They should have re-signed earlier.

They don't need or have to do anything else unless they lose memberst to other P5 leagues.

boise state to the b12...what a laugh. I'm pretty sure there is not a single b12 school that considers boise a peer..

RE: When will the dominoes fall?
The Big 12 could offer invitations to Cincinnati and Memphis...popular choices for West Virginia and bridging the rest of the Big 12...or they could add Cincinnati and Colorado State and create a bridge for West Virginia and not far from Iowa State and get back into Colorado.

Option one

East

West Virginia
Cincinnati
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State
Memphis

West

Baylor
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas
Texas Christian
Texas Tech

Option 2

North

Cincinnati
Colorado State
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State
West Virginia

South

Baylor
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas
Texas Christian
Texas Tech

I know about their academics.

If they are serious about retaining P5 status, they would add them anyway. They are the low man on the totem pole. Seems to me they should be protecting their flank, even if it's a FB only invite.

Any other Add will hurt them come playoff time.

They are just too far away in academics bottom five or ten in all of FBS.
Say they were nationally ranked but lower than WVU 170 maybe but their not.
Coastal is ranked ahead of them and some SBC fans dislike CCU's academics.
Also football is all they have so if they suddenly start losing and lose popularity you get nothing. No market low population state away from the conference.

The Big XII will not add Boise.. Ever. Academics is a major issue there. Look for two of Memphis, UCF and Cincy. My bet would be Memphis and Cincy. Great basketball tradition at both, both have decent football right now, academics are ok, and both are relatively near current Big XII schools [WVU and Iowa State for Cincy, Iowa State and the 2 Kansas schools for Memphis]

In addition, both provide a bridge to West Virginia. Makes no sense to add anyone in the west at this time.

Right now you have a round robin schedule that allows Iowa State and the Kansas schools to recruit Texas heavy because of the multiple games annually and have annual marquee games against Oklahoma/Texas schools.

Adding Cinci and Memphis builds a bridge to West Virginia but it also forces KU, KSU, ISU into a division that lessens their penetration into Texas and doesn't guarantee annual games against the league's marquee teams.

I doubt they are open to that.

North
Kansas .. KState ... Iowa State ... Memphis ... Cinci ... WV

South
Texas ... Tech ... TCU ... Baylor ... OU ... Ok St

The North division was one thing when Nebraska and Missouri (and to a lesser extent Colorado) were in the league. They were neighboring states that shared history from the Big 8 days.

I think that might be why Houston has some appeal to the Big-12. Adding Cinci and Houston (with Houston playing in the North Division) gurantees regular trips into Texas for North Division schools (as well as helps to offset the strong presence of the SEC in SE Texas).

in se texas, houston would offset none of the sec presence. a-m rules the roost there and very few fans would pick a uh game over a-m vs anybody from the sec. only good crowds would be uh vs ut-austin or ou..

I think this is true, and I actually think Memphis and UCF probably ride the border of what would be acceptable to the Big XII. Another reason that Houston could have an edge over some other contenders, if expansion ever actually happens.

I have nothing solid to base this on other than being an observer with an interest in academics, though.
