What states have the highest HS graduation rates for African-Americans?

The answer might surprise.

Leading the pack...Texas at 84%
Followed by Tennessee, Montana and Akansas
In fact, 7 of the top ten are traditionally red states

At the bottom? Five of the bottom 7 are traditionally blue states, with bright blue Oregon and DC pulling up the last two spots.

The south is racist and you're racist if you don't agree with that narrative. The voluntarily-segregated North is a bastion of social justice, equality, and mutual tolerance.

Less than half of blacks in some states graduate. That's pretty bad.

This shouldn't really come as a surprise. The south is on an upswing economically while the states blacks moved to in mass quantity when during the WWII era for jobs are doing terribly. It is a lot easier to do well when there are jobs coming rather than leaving.

I'll take a wild guess and say that the states where the population as a whole are doing best are the states where AAs are doing best.

Well, we should be honest, blacks are doing best where they have the most access to government jobs.

The numbers are pretty clear, there is not a large privately based black middle class in this country. That's a catastrophe for all of us.

High graduation rates for blacks in Montana. 8 of the 10 students in school graduated. Hmmm, I went to that website and there were 3 other groups listed but you only made a thread about one, interesting.

Wow that is interesting. Maybe referencing the site that seems to match the data from the US Dept of Education's report explains the choice.

I still am having a hard time figuring that out exactly. I mean, honestly - if you are poor you can live in any place that has subsidized housing - and I know that isn't confined to large urban areas only.

The dynamic of black folks being drawn to and staying in urban crap hole areas is somewhat confounding. I mean - I'm in a dangerous area - move to a less dangerous area that has subsidized housing - my costs don't change, I'm not paying for it either way?

Don't forget busing minorities to better school districts as well.

It's more than public housing. It's the public transportation, more things within walking distance, more community centers and closer to more "free" and subsidized stuff in general.

Before somebody calls me racist both of my parents grew up in the 1st housing projects in Raleigh. I get the mentality from the poor folks perspective. The problem is most get trapped in it.
