See that yellow? That's NJs coastal plain. Now check Burlington County. That little nose looking part of it next to Camden County is where my one horse town is. It was good farm country and 42 miles from the coast but it is not a coastal town.
Point I'm making is, Statesboro is in the SE sector of GA and may be in the coastal plain but it is not a coastal town/city.
I see your point and no Statesboro is not a coastal town. However most people in Ga consider Statesboro to be south Ga, and many refer to that area as a coastal region. Some say SE Ga. Either way when you get in to that area you see the difference in the sandy type soils and palms, big oaks with the Spanish moss hanging. Its very similar to what the landscape looks like in Coastal towns.

RE: Which Power 5 Conference Program is your team most like?
My hometown (and where I once again reside) is a great example of this confusion.
Waycross, GA is very much in the Lower Coastal Plain but has both "Coastal traits" and "South Georgia traits". I mean, we have both live oaks and palm trees as well as swamps. Gnats and mosquitoes as well as gators. As well as multiple soils including clays and sands. We actually have another designation we use alot down here, the Wiregrass Region. Just saying that sometimes it depends on who you ask and what you're asking.

Should we change the thread title to physio-cultural geography 101?

I think it would be fair to place anything below the Piedmont as South Georgia. We know the Macon area as Middle/Central Georgia, of course, but pretty much anywhere else can pull of South Georgia pretty well, as far as I'm concerned.

We've got a confession to make. Although Boone looks to be a resort town in the mountains of North Carolina, in the spirit of Kaitlyn Jenner and Rachel Dolezal, we are now identifying as a major coastal city. Our market is the size of New York, but with a football following matching Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Based on this information, we expect to get a call from a major P5 conference by the end of the summer, because, you know, marketz. Got a problem? The problem you have is with you, not us, you closed-minded location-phobes.

And coastal plains Texas has, in keeping with the 'Texas Rising' scenery, become a mountainous region. Deal with it.

It does indeed. One of my all time favorite sports team names was the Macon Whoopee, their CHL Hockey team.

Drive down 75 and when all of sudden the land gets flat and you can see the horizon 20 miles away, you're in South Georgia.

All I see on I-16 is pine trees a D there are still hills. It doesn't look like Moultrie and Cordele. South Georgia starts to look like North Florida especially traveling south on 75.

That works for me! As you know, they're certainly not just a coastal thing. Sand gnats are a different story, but my summers as a kid in southwest Georgia were definitely spent with a cloud of gnats following me around.

If sand gnats are any indication I live ocean front. Just can't see the beach for the trees.

RE: (changed) OT-physio-cultural geography 101
"Dad dang-it!" All this geography crap is crazy.
Georgia SOUTHERN is in Southern GA, To be specific SOUTH EAST GA.
That is all we need to know. Not only below the nat line, but the starting point of all of them "throughout the universe".
And I-I6 runs all the way from Macon to Savannah. It connects Central GA and South East GA all the way to and including the "Coastal" area. That whole discussion was just strange.
Then to answer the question:
For many reasons Alabama is a good candidate:
Most National Championships in FBS/Most in FCS
Except for Blue/Crimson color and one stripe on the pants, we look nearly the same - right down to the grey face mask.
Bama won most of their NC's running an option offense, so did we.
They have Bear Bryant, ERK Russell is our Bryant. Not every program has that 1 major iconic figure. Many do, but we certainly share this type of reverence for our old ball coach.
Georgia Southern used to be called: "The Blue Tide"
---------------
Next I'd have to say that our current offensive style would be the love triangle child of GT/Auburn/Oregon. But for most programs, this is going to change. Speaking heritage wise you'd have to throw the old Osborne Nebraska in there. So I'd say maybe the grandchild of GT/Auburn on one side with Oregon/old School Nebraska on the other. That weird enough for you?
Next, I'd say that track wise for growth - we are similar to FSU.
Very similar market, and I can see our program taking off very similar to the way FL State did given our location.
