Has nothing to with USA I assure you.... As evidence in our current recruiting efforts as well.

Lazy recruiting by the old staff and the need for facility upgrades has more to do with it.

My outsider opinion.

Troy got bad lazy in recruiting. Way too much reliance on jucos to build team chemistry, AState had guys winning awards in the GoDaddy from Alabama who didn't get a Troy offer that I recall.

USM good lord, they went out and hired a guy who basically said he didn't care what they had done to be successful, they were going to do it a different way.

Maybe you could call the next AD "King of Troy" or "No. 1" or "Boss of Troy Sports."

Oh, sorry, misread the thread title -- you meant possible candidates for AD. I thought maybe you were thinking about new job titles.

Pretty much.... I've been keeping close tabs on recruiting lately. And pretty much any stAte offer in Alabama Troy has offered. Coach brown said we are going to own our area of the state in recruiting. Means more butts in the seats when family members can attend the games.

The days of lazy recruiting at Troy are over with my friends.

It has something to do with USA. But it's more to do with USA and Georgia State becoming programs, and Georgia Southern announcing a move to FBS, and actually moving up. UAB also had unprecedented recruiting success under Garrick McGhee, in which Bill Clark was the beneficiary. Those are (were) four big thorns in Troy's side that weren't around during the titles years, or in UABs case they weren't recruiting at the level they have over the last four years.

As for Arkansas State, they and South Alabama have been poaching top talent out of Dothan and Montgomery over the years. But as soon as Brown arrived, a lot less of that happened. Several guys who were committed to USA and guys who committed to Arkansas State switched to Troy before signing day. The corridor is ours. USA got one guy from Dothan we wanted, but its safe to say we have reclaimed that territory.

Georgia Southern and Appalachian State were on our recruits "also offered" page more than any other SBC teams combined. They, and not USA or Arkansas State, will affect Troy's recruiting.

RE: Possible Names for next TROY AD
As far as potential arguments: USA has more potential than Troy in market size alone. They haven't shown that they have the money to compete with Troy. We're breaking ground on our $28 million end zone facility in November/December and had the money to hire what (at the time) were the highest paid coaches in the SBC back in December. Still not even a whisper as to an OCS for USA (or UAB), as a tumbleweed rolls by.

Joey Jones is a pretty good coach, but he's not a great coach. He hasn't shown he can be more than an average SBC coach. This year will tell us a lot more with what he has to deal with. In my opinion, the longer USA holds on to Joey Jones, the longer USA will be content with being just average.

A South Alabama graduate assistant walked into my office a few weeks ago and we talked a lot about football. He made the comment that South doesn't know if they want to be a basketball school or a football school. If that's true, as long as they have that problem, they will never give football the support it needs to survive.

Not "guys" but one guy switched from stAte to Troy last year. Melvin Tyus from Carver HS. We only signed one guy from AL in this class and targeted fewer in 2015 (which was long before any change in coaches at Troy) but we will still go into AL and get some kids.

Fair enough. We had guy(s) from surrounding schools, five of them, flip to Troy. I'm not including UAB guys to pad numbers. One of them, like you said, was committed to Arkansas State. We like Melvin Tyus.

Fair enough. We all flipped some kids and lost some. We beat the likes of Cincy, Memphis, Ilinois, etc. for some but lost a few too. Finished 1 or 2 in all the major recruiting rankings for the SBC so it's no sweat. We will see when everyone laces them up!

Arkansas State has done very well. What's the next phase on renovations/additions to your venue?

Next up after:
new video board(complete),
indoor practice facility (complete),
press box/suites/concessions/bathrooms(should be done Aug 1st),

would be football operations center in north end zone.

Hey, my husband is retired and I'm semi-retired. We go to the beach a lot. (we really love the water) I'm out there 3/4 hours. I check in, once, while sitting under the beach canopy. (somebody has to keep you all in line during the day) I also read on my Kindle. We take a light lunch. It's something we like doing. It also shows that I could do the job remotely. 04-rock

Thought the same thing. Lafayette has now passed Shreveport-Bossier for 3rd largest city metro in the state behind only BR and NO.

Back on topic. Any news out of Troy as to who may be the front runner for the A.D. position?
