Just imagine if this would've happened at a Sun Belt or any other lower division school. The NCAA would drop the hammer on them.

To me, the solution is to end the charade that big time college athletics are amateur in nature when most rational adults realize that's not the case.
One solution would to simply call things what they are. College athletics should probably be restructured from D-1, D-2, D-3, etc., into more realistic divisions or classifications -- those where either all or part of a program's players are school employees and thus paid for their services -- and those where student-athletes compete against one another.
If the big boys want to go play somewhere else, let them. The only one who benefits from their presence is the NCAA anyway.
