AState's Zach George finishes as Nations On Base Leader
Finished with an on base percentage of .548 after reaching base 4 times against South Alabama Saturday. Hits in his final 2 at bats also gave him a final batting average of .399. He reached base in all 57 games this season, with the total streak at 74 games, which is 2nd most in NCAA History.

It's a shame that we had such a poor year, because he would have run away with player of the year on a better team. Instead Trahan got it because he's the best all around player on the best team.

George is a Senior, but has received a medical redshirt, so he could in theory return next year if his injuries keep him out of the MLB draft, and he wants to come back. Neither is certain at this time.

I know he can hit but watching him run is painful. He isn't a power threat so I wonder if his inability to run will keep a pro team from taking him. I would love to see him get a shot at pro ball....after next season. But I still wish he gets to live his dream of pro ball. He has been to good for us to wish anything else.

he spent the last month of the season nursing a bad hamstring.

Trahan is the best player in this conference. Don't give me the "it's because he's on a good team" BS. Like I've said on here before, the draft will prove me right on that one. Since you seem to be in the know for this sort of stuff, how did George finish in the preseason POTY voting and in the final POTY voting?

But then we're bordering on the question of whether or not the award is for the best pro prospect, or the best player statstically.

Trahan is a major pro prospect because he plays a coveted position at shortstop, is young, and has no injuries. George is not a prospect, and may not even get drafted because he's considered brittle, and is coming off of two major knee injuries, and is in his 5th year in our program.

Is it really fair to George that he shouldn't get the award because he came out of nowhere (Wasn't even preseason all conference) to hit .400 despite not having near the lineup behind him that the Cajuns have behind Trahan?

Remember this is the Player of the year not best pro prospect of the year. No doubt he is that according to people who should know.
Also last year George was hitting .382 when he got hurt and .333 when he was hurt the year before.so he has been a very good hitter since he got here...lousy knees but great hitter.
Looked at season stats. George hit .399 to .336. George hit 3hrs to 2. George had 35 to 28 RBI' s. Stat wise he had a better college year than Trahan. Like Chief said if your player of the year is the better pro prospect then Trahan is your guy. The guy who had the better year with the bat was George. Defensively I know George could play two positions well. I figure Trahan did well also. Of course these awards are offense awards. Now is Trahan the best college(emphasis on college) player in the conference...well he got the award but not really. He was great last year too and sometimes with another good year these become career awards. I do look forward to seeing Trahan play pro ball and hopefully in the majors. Good luck to the Cajuns in the NCAA' s.
