Which is why he likely values his present $800,000+ pay check since a doctor in private practice usually makes a lot less, especially when many patients are Medicare / Medicaid in coverage. When a doctor accepts "M/M assignments", he can't go back to the patient for much - or any - of the balance. This segment of the population is growing rapidly with the wave of Baby Boomers crashing into retirement age, and Medicare automatically becomes their primary coverage when they pass 65 and begin SS.
