RE: Football OOC Prediction
I think when you have a mismatch on paper, as you do with Clemson/App, all the pressure is on underdog in the first quarter to somehow keep it close, the underdog is usually very tight, and playing not to make mistakes, while the favorite plays very loose, and tend to not worry about making mistakes. But if the under dog can stay in the game, or even lead late in the third, you get a complete change in attitudes, the underdogs play with confidence, while the overwhelming favorites start to fear they might actually lose the game and start to choke. The App/Michigan game is a great example of this, when we scored our first td of the game, a 70 yd catch and run, the App receiver Jackson said as he was standing in the endzone, and the two corners he beat actually came up to him laughing, they were not worried in the least bit they just got beat, and treated the td like it was fluke, or joke. But by the end of the third, they weren't laughing anymore, infact reports say a lot of the Michgan players were pissed at each other, yelling and screaming, about how they could actually lose to a FCS program. All we need to do is stay in the game for the first half, if we do that, then our confidence will be high and maybe we can make a game of it.

RE: Football OOC Prediction
I agree with what you are saying because I was in a game like that once with Fla State in 1988. They were number 2 or 3 in the country at the time. We were down 7-0 at half but the only TD they scored was on a long hail marry type throw that bounced around our defenders hands and landed on their receiver as he laid on his back, pure luck as the clock ran down in the first half. We came out and scored 10 and led middle of the 4th 10-7. They scored a couple more TD's through the air against a 3rd team corner we had as our first team guy was knocked out of the game and the second guy was already hurt. They won 28-10. We held Sammy Smith to 37 yards before knocking him out of the game.
I understand how it can be when playing against a more established program like a Florida State. However, we didnt go into that game believing we would win, but at halftime we believed we could. Every time Michigan scored in that game, App answered with a score. I watched that game several times because I recorded it. Truth is that App team was good enough to win that game anyway. That was no fluke. Every now and then someone is able to put together a group of players that just play very well together. Not to mention App had alot of talent on that team as well. Very much like our 89 15-0 team. We would have beatn allot of teams that year IMO.
My main point though is that so many underdog teams go into the game against the bigger opponent and dont truly believe they will win. Believing this changes everything. You play different when you believe you will win if you play your best. Imagine if Apps players go into Clemson with the same attitude they would have if they were playing GS. Thats what you want from your players. I guarantee you the overall attitude of Apps players the day of the Clemson game wont be the same as it would if they were playing GS or ULL. They will probably have the attitude that if we play our best and get some breaks and have some luck we will play them close, and thats good enough, we just dont want to be embarrassed. If so then unless Clemson just totally screws up and doesnt show up, there is no chance. But if they go in with the attitude that they are as good as Clemson and if we play our best we will win, the game will not only probably be closer but exciting. I hope they do because I would love to see App beat Clemson.

I think it works the other way too. I believe when App was beaten by Liberty they were convinced they would win and perhaps didn't prepare as hard as they should have. Same for USA a couple years ago when they lost to Southern Utah at home and same for a bunch of other examples.

Wow Troy!! That is one heck of an OOC schedule this season! May be one of the toughest OOC in FBS.

That seems to be caught all excuse whenever an FCS beats a FBS not that that FCS team is good.
