No, this was a preemptive "you don't know what you don't know." All he did was say that suddenly, there is more to it than money, support and a favorable report.

All he had to say was that he looked forward to seeing a favorable report and pledged support that would see us be excellent in athletics for years to come. Heck, he could have even played on the "world class" line from the other night. If the report or support wasn't there, he could then be "deeply saddened" at the lack of needed support. Instead, he's making inroads to allow himself to magically come up with some other reason why the murdered sports can't come back.

The fact that there is a plan to make an announcement before the C-USA meetings gives me some hope. Otherwise, why even say when you're going to make the announcement? On the other hand no email I get from Ray Watts is going to give me a good feeling unless it's a sincere apology and an announcement of his resignation.

Usually you drop bad news on a Friday....good news on a Monday.

But usually you do press conference for good news and email for bad.

So the signals are mixed.

The same day as the C-USA decision? Hmm.

It's just weird timing for announcing the timing of an announcement. It's hard to know what to think. I'm really interested in what we hear from the Friday press conference. We need a game changer.

It makes zero sense to release this email now and then say it's dead, so I'm cautiously optimitic here. Then again, none of this has ever made a lick of sense.

This email was preemptive of tomorrow's announcement. Make no mistake about that. Maybe it's Ray's way of trying to take a little credit.

I know Watts is an idiot but to set all of this up only to announce that football will not be returning would be next level stupid (not that I'd be shocked). This gives me hope that it may be coming back.

...but announcing the return of football via email would seem to be pretty stupid as well. Just dodging the press either way.

Frankly it wouldn't matter what he announced in a press conference. He would get skewered either way. There is no upside facing the press for him on this issue

I kind of feel like the board will force him out before a decision is announced. Therefore, kicking the can further down the road without an active President to make a decision on football.

They will finally make Ray fall on the sword because they will have no more use for him.

They will not fire Watts before then. Ain't happening.

Great point. He still has to answer for a lot either way. A press conference would probably force him to violate his NDA, which I'm sure is being drafted right now.
