RE: Marcus and the NBA Draft
Marcus apparently has a better than decent shot at making an NBA summer squad where he would have a
chance to make an NBA roster.

If not, however, his future remains exceedingly bright in Europe. His style of play and talent will draw big dollars for many years with a major European team. They will adore him over there.

RE: Marcus and the NBA Draft
Where does the NBA D-League fall in the hierarchy of pro basketball. I would think that if Marcus is a potential 2nd round pick that he'd be a lock to make a D-League team. Is there a better chance of getting to the NBA from there than for Europe? I would also assume that there is a lot more money to be made in Europe if you never make it to the NBA.

RE: Marcus and the NBA Draft
Europe makes more money than D-League, but guys in the D-League are often called in for 10-day stints that aren't possible if you're in Europe.

RE: Marcus and the NBA Draft
Everything about the D-League and Europe is accurate. D-League players make under 25k usually. Europe can pay 200-500k.

The big deal with D-League is that if you make it on a team after two ten day contracts run out the amount of money steps up to a pro-rated miminum salary that runs for the rest of the season. Early in the season this could be as much as $400k. Later it is less obviously. Even with a ten day contract you will get about $25k in other words doubling your D-League pay.

RE: Marcus and the NBA Draft
I watched some of the D-League playoff games a few weeks back. I was shocked by how many former NBA players I recognized.

Gotta be a humbling experience.

Marcus Thornton is on the pre-draft NBA grind with the Pacers today. He had a great workout with Larry Bird sitting court side.

From Marcus' workout coach the last few years, so, a little bias built-in.

RE: Marcus and the NBA Draft
Comments after Marcus' pre-draft workout with the Celtics today:

Marcus Thornton finds scoring rhythm

No player at the Draft Combine had a quicker three-quarter court sprint (3.02 seconds) than Thornton (no relation to the Marcus Thornton who suited up for the C’s last season).

But Thornton’s speed was not the only aspect of his game that excited Ainge on Wednesday, as he noted that the William and Mary guard “made a lot of shots.”

The 6-3 guard said he had been struggling with his shot lately and was happy to rekindle his abilities in front of a team like the Celtics.

“This is one of the greatest teams in NBA history,” said Thornton. “To play in front of a great coach and play with these other great players, to have this opportunity has been great for me, so I’m glad I was able to have a good showing today.”

MT needs to be on a team with the current Phoenix Sun Marcus Thornton and the Georgia Bulldog Marcus Thornton. Imagine being the radio guy if all 3 were on the court at once.

Maybe he could also pay against George Foreman and all of his sons.

Back to basketball.

Marcus to work out with the Wizards tomorrow afternoon.

http://www.csnwashington.com/basketball-...ys-session

"This group does not include any projected first round picks. Thornton could push his way into the second round after a strong athletic performance at the NBA Combine.

Draft Express, one of the leading NBA Draft sites, ranks Thornton (98) and Threatt (97) among the top 100 prospects in the 2015 class."

Jarvis Threatt ahead of MT is just silly.

RE: Marcus and the NBA Draft
Aside from Threatt's chronic misconduct and inability to remain with a patient UD squad, he was hardly a top 3 player on the Hens roster. How anyone with half a brain could see more value in him than MT is beyond me.

RE: Marcus and the NBA Draft
Threatt played in the D League this past winter, so, he's had a little more exposure in NBA circles than Marcus at this point.

Marcus will certainly get his direct comparison in the Wizards workout today...Hopefully a good showing.

Just saw this website and they have Marcus being taken at #35 by the Sixers. They also gave him an average draft ranking of 38 (on the right side of the web page).

Marcus and the NBA Draft
After seeing what happened to Tre on draft day, I'll refrain from being "encouraged."

Hoping for the best, but at this point I'd say still a long shot.
