Its nice to see the AAC and the G5 dominating the rankings. We can only wait a few more years when it gets even more ridiculous. 03-banghead

There used to be a time where there were 3-4 ranked mid-majors heading into the season - with one normally floating around the #15 spot.

I think the BCS era was actually better for mid-majors. The money was less, but it was far easier to crack the top 20.

Well, two of those "mid-majors" you'd expect to see in the rankings (TCU and Louisville) are still there; they're just in P5 conferences now.

I know Tennessee is returning like 18 starters form a 7-6 team but isn't 20 a little to high for them?

You have to put the schools who put 100K in the stands in your rankings if you want lots of clicks. 03-wink

Texas will be a stronger team than Tennessee. I worry about the Vols - 7-5 to 8-4 could be the new normal for that program. It's not the "good old SEC" anymore.

Or Florida for that matter.

Of course, Notre Dame is about where they are at the beginning of every year, but never where they are at the end of the year.

I think the Vols have had some strong recruiting classes of late --- maybe the feeling is that, talent-wise at least, they're top 25 ready.

The same as in 2012, when they were unranked in the preseason polls but went 12-0 in the regular season.

ND was one of the youngest teams in college football last year and return 19 of 22 starters from the team that beat LSU in the Music City Bowl.

It is still programs more than anything. TCU, Louisville, Boise State, Utah, Cincinnati, ECU, UCF, USF, Houston, Southern Miss and Marshall were the "non traditional" schools that cracked the top 25 multiple times. For the most part that group is still getting it done. Now we can probably add NIU to that mix, maybe Colorado State, Air Force, and Navy too as potential top 25 type teams.

And they aren't in a hot bed of recruiting.

Do they put any thought into this whatsoever. They just rotate around the same names every year, whether they're actually good or not.

Oregon, Baylor, UCLA, FL State, Tennessee all over rated.
Clemson, Georgia, Arkansas underrated.

Being it is a "too early Top 25", I wouldn't put too much thought into making it or reading it.

Yep. They have killed it in recruiting. East isn't as tough as the West.
