Are you sure you aren't from Skokie, instead of Iowa?

I'm afraid you are going to have to explain further.

Eugenics was yet another favorite topic to go along with racial purity in the Third Reich. Skokie has long been associated with pro Neo fascist thinking. And they were part of the American bund back in the day.

The Nazi's don't own the rights to that intellectual property. They don't even own the rights to the intellectual property of the Swastika.

Please. Two smart people are perfectly capable of having a stupid child. It happens all the time.

Go ahead, tell me I'm an example. Doesn't bother me.

Likewise, a brilliant child will spontaneously appear from two nearly illiterate parents.

Well first off, intelligence is genetic. Whether or not someone utilizes that intelligence is something else entirely. Two smart parents could be terrible parents and that has more to do with the child not being raised intelligently and thus appearing to not be intelligent.

As far as you? I may be an ass around here at times but I am not going that personal. I don't know you and I wouldn't judge you simply based upon your views on realignment and sports. I'm more of a troll than an *******.

As to your last statement though? No. There is nothing spontaneous about a child overcoming a rough start. You might be surprised how well two illiterate parents can raise a child. They see what it's like to have nothing and would be very motivated to see their child grow up differently. A major part of raising a child that seems intelligent is early age learning. The odds of course would be that the child would be like the parents but you aren't talking about genetics, you are talking about a very small percentage chance event happening.

Eugenics isn't about those few happenings, it is about giving every child, every soul, an equal opportunity in life. If people truly loved their children, they would understand that. The people that don't are just being selfish and primal. I'm not talking about the kind of eugenics that Kill people, I'm just talking about birthing eugenics.

And I know that it would fail miserably. How are you going to decide which people get to breed and which don't?

Ignorant and unintelligent are two very different things. Illiteracy could be due to either. So could stupidity.

Given the direction that genetically modified food has gone, I'll take my chances with nature thank you.

You don't know that it would fail miserably, you would just like to believe that it would. People whom have given themselves to Cult like belief systems seem to display behavior in other aspects of their life where they mistake their beliefs as fact.

How would I decide personally or how do I think as a society it would be determined? Either way, you really would not like my answer and this isn't the place for that kind of a detailed conversation.

Safe to say you couldn't handle an adult conversation about eugenics with me. You would truly think of me as a bad guy.

I will say this though, Eugenics isn't necessarily about who will and wont have children. It's about who will and won't pass on their genetics to the next generation. Your genes may be found wanting yet you could still be a great parent and still be able to raise children.

No it doesn't. They produce ignorant, entitled brats that do not experience much of the darker side of life thus they have very little depth to their character.

It's my understanding that intelligence is roughly 50% nature and roughly 50% nurture.

It's my understanding that intelligence is roughly 50% nature and roughly 50% nurture.

I'm talking purely about genetic intelligence. That happens at conception. Now, the 50% you are talking about is actually more than 50%. Genetics are important, but even more important is proper parenting. A lot of parents think they are being good parents but actually they aren't. As long as we remain a "freedom first" country, then we will never fully realize the potential of the human race.

Great parenting mixed with strong genetics is the key. It's more like 65% parenting and 35% genetics...roughly. If you get that genetic part wrong though, then there is a ceiling. Folks may not wish to admit it because that is very personal for most people but that is the case with any hard truth.

This is a debatable philosophical question. Only time could prove who's right. The flapping of gums back and forth will resolve nothing.

Would eugenics remove the less desirable genes from our genetic pool, or would it narrow the gene pool to the point where it allows for more genetic outliers than would have occurred normally?

Of course, with the advances in medical technology it won't be long before we're able to manipulate those genes directly, to ensure that the best traits from the genetic soup are selected. So why start eugenics now, when time may solve the issue for us?

It's a conundrum to be sure.

Good points, in response I would point back to my original statement that got this ball rolling. What I said is that Eugenics in this country is inevitable. By what you just posted, it would seem that you agree. Eventually it is inevitable but what is in question is the how.

To me, everything along the Gulf Coast (Houston, Corpus Christi, Beaumont, Victoria, etc.) is southeast. Everything west of the I-35 corridor (El Paso, Lubbock, Abilene, Amarillo, Midland/Odessa, etc.) is more southwest. The stuff in the middle (Dallas/Ft. Worth, Austin, San Antonio, College Station, Waco, etc.) could go either way. I've only been to Texas once (was on tour with a band through Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas) so most of my opinion is based on perception and not fact.

I have been to Corpus Christi and San Antonio many times. I have been to Laredo as well, El Paso too.

I think that East Texas is Southeast, but Corpus Christi and San Antonio are definitely Southwest, especially the latter.

Houston is the dividing line to me.

If Georgia is Southeast and Arizona is Southwest, then Texas is its own region (different from both of them).
