What is the MWC doing taking UTEP?

Hawaii's AD has stated football may very well go away. They have a deficit approaching $3 million and have posted major deficits 11 of the past 13 years. Winning 4 games the 2 years has them struggling to sell season tickets. UTEP is just salivating at the thought of dumping the far flung CUSA.

If we lose a school, we fire Benson.
If everyone stays intact, we fire Benson.

I know the Sun Belt Spring meetings are somewhere around the 20th or so of May. When are the CUSA spring meetings? Are they in June since it has been widely circulated that by June 8th a decision will be announced regarding UAB?

I think Hawaii is undoubtedly in big trouble, but I think BYU jumps back onto the MWC ship since they need a conference to give them a chance to the playoffs and not sure if Big 12 would ever throw them a bone

UMass FB only and James Madison and your back to 12 for FB and get a Championship game. 07-coffee3

If an Eastern School leaves invite UAB, find an eastern #12 all sports, drop Idaho, and do a 10/12 allignment with NMSU as football only
If a Western School leaves invite NMSU for all sports, find an eastern #12 all sports, drop Idaho and do a 10/12 allignment

Divisional scheduling would help save money in non revenue sports and with football championship deregulation, a made for tv rematch of the Sunbelt's top 2 teams for the football championship would be great. No need for Idaho now that deregulation of championship game will pass. Even if NMSU is football only, keeping them around is a good idea in case they are ever needed in the future. Going 10/12 also allows the Sunbelt room to grow should an ideal FCS upgrade candidate ever arise in the long term future.

It makes the most sense for utep to be in mwc with other like schools in the western time zones. rice and marshall seem to be the remaining odd members of cusa that need to move to the aac.

If the UAB decision takes another season, Marshall could get jumped in that pecking order.

This!!! I think each of our teams get better and become the top conference in G5. The potential for most of our football programs is there.

Marshall is going to have academic hurdles in getting an AAC invite. Not saying it won't happen, but AAC presidents are going to eye them.

Simply not true. We have solid academics at Marshall.

Biggest thing with us is that we accept props and the AAC does not allow props.

Most Marshall fans would rather stay in CUSA because of this very reason.

If your responding to my post then I think its just a matter of time. I personally am witnessing the growth of several programs in the SB just by reading and paying attention. ULL is on the way up, Tex St is on the way up, App, GS, Ark St It seems to me are all on the way up, not only football, but all their athletic programs. I think its just a matter of time before you see the football schools, like the ones I mentioned, become more successful and noticed. There are some programs IMO that just are not going to grow much as far as football because of their location and lack of winning traditions. I think some are just in bad locations with not enough population or have a bigger program near by that just creates a negative situation for them.

That would be a serious criteria, but Marshall is not much different than East Carolina. They're both regional universities with similar goals. High-research universities like Houston, on the other hand, is incredibly ambitious (beyond athletics) and is on the top of the list to become the third tier-one public university in Texas. The demographics and academic profiles of AAC universities are pretty high, so whether the conference wants another program similar to ECU is questionable.

RE: If we lose 1 member to CUSA what do we,do?
Well, I'm fine with less members as long as we get to host an actual Championship Game.

I want 2 clear divisions of the conference with the winner of each meeting in the CCG.

Outside of that, I don't care if we lose at least one of those. Seriously (no insult intended) if we lose GAST, we become better as a football power by subtraction and in turn CUSA becomes weaker. Sure GAST has the "potential", just like both F?Us, but they aren't helping us as a conference get ranked high enough and make a better claim to rights of the Access Bowl.

It'd be a bigger loss to lose USA, but there again - JSU could fill their roll pretty well. Many have said that the only thing keeping JSU out to this point is that they are in a state from which we already have two members. Now, I don't really know their geography in Alabama, but wouldn't we be just about as well off to have JSU and Troy as USA/Troy?
That is IF we wanted to replace a team.

We could stay at 10. Or even less could be good in that we would have one more Saturday to schedule a money game (gotta fund COA!) without giving up a home game. Or even trade that for a home/away series to increase home games in some years. Like this year, we have 6 home games, but only 5 Saturdays. We could still wind up with 6 Saturdays at home and a Thursday this way!

I don't see a need to take UMASS (although I love the History of their region!) as a member unless we are in real danger of dropping below 8. We could keep them alive by some of us rotating scheduling them home/away leaving us that extra payout game in most years. They do have the rest of the G5 to do this with and could easy be OK as an independent. We could assure them so many games a year as a conference maybe to get preferred scheduling? Just a thought.

I'd still take JMU if they came calling. They are still the prettiest girl at the Ball with no dance partner.
Even if some of them have acted like a B otch, I mean come on - what girl isn't at some point? 03-wink

I don't even care if we have a championship game (unless it results in more money/better bowls for us).

I just want a clear set of guidelines for a champion. This season was easy: Georgia Southern didn't lose to anyone in conference, everybody else did. But the whole "co-champion" thing... Not a fan of, personally.

SIAP, but if it is Georgia State, force NMSU to bring all sports in or, adios. If they do then we go with two five team divisions and boom, we have a CCG. If it's South, then see above.
