Trade Tulane for USM
Trade SMU for LA Tech
Trade Tulsa for ULL or maybe even Ark State.

All 3 are better long term in terms of fans, rivalries and athletics overall.
And where would ECU go, considering Tulane was more accomplished in our c. 20 years in C-USA together in every sport than ECU, except football (and even in football, our heights > ECU's heights).
You have a sunbelt mentality, go for the best minor bowl team, with no concept of academics or history or institutional quality or strength.

I'm shocked if blunderbus is really serious. Eliminating those universities is a terrible idea.

Yeah yeah. Like it or not, university presidents will always want to have a certain number of selective private schools in their conferences to raise their academic profiles by association. Even the SEC has Vanderbilt.

True. School presidents like being associated with highly acclaimed academic institutions. They feel like thier schools gain prestige from the association. The flip side is from a sports business standpoint---small exclusive privates have small fan bases which mean generally lower attendance, lower tv ratings, and lower appeal to bowls. Too many privates in a conference is a bad decision. We have plenty. The next schools added need to be large publics with successful programs and large enrollments. There is some Ivy League snob appeal to adding Rice and Army---making the AAC a very academically impressive collection of schools. The west division would have a very Magnolia Conference feel---but it probably hurts the conference in terms of TV and bowls.

It seems like the ideal candidate would have a profile similar to UCONN.

The 2 G5 schools that most closely resemble that are:

Miami (OH) - Public 15,000+ enrollment, #76 USNWR
UMass - Public 22,000+ enrollment, #76 USNWR

9 in the last 24 hours. The Parliament can be just as busy as Coogfans so no need to throw stones in glass houses--well maybe so because its fun to poke fun at Rice.

blunderboss you have no idea about what matters, and you must be an idiot since those schools all suck at doing what they are supposed to do - you know…be a university. More importantly - no TV markets anywhere to be seen on your list. THis is about current and future TV sets - which is why Houston, Cincinnati and SMU are in the game and ECU is not.

Rice however is too far the other way. It is a bunch of nerds with no future athletic future. Adding them would be admitting failure for AAC. They are not in the game, period.

No disrespect for Rice but the AAC is just fine with the 12 schools it has for the 2015 - 2016 year. Besides your duplicating a market and there would not be any addition CFP money or a raise in the conference TV contract with their admission. Give this conference a chance to play together for a year with all of its members. 04-jawdrop 03-nutkick 03-hissyfit 05-stirthepot 05-mafia 03-drunk 01-lauramac2 04-cheers 07-coffee3

I guess everybody that graduates from those 4 schools I mentioned is an idiot. Not everybody can afford or has the smarts to go to a Tulane, SMU or Rice. I sure as heck didn't when I was coming out of high school. That doesn't mean that they / we aren't getting a good education or that they can't have a good career. Jeez, some of you academic snobs take the stuff that's posted on this board way too seriously.

There's a boat load of schools out there that rank far higher than a lot of this conference academically. Should we add them as well? Why not add the Colorado School of Mines, Case Western Reserve, Northeastern, George Washington.... Hell, why not Miami (OH), UMass, Idaho and NMSU since they've got football and are flagship/land grant schools with a better academic profile than most in here.

ECU is in the game buddy. We're right here with you SMOO. FFS, get over yourself.

I completely agree - see my other previous comment. I don't think we need to add Rice at all because that's too many small, private schools in our conference. We're at a good number now and need to keep enough larger state schools if we want to move up in the world.

I totally agree that Rice would be a good fit for the American. That way you could hook up again with the other private schools (Tulane/Tulsa/SMU). The only obstacle I could see is with Houston already being in the American. I sincerely hope it happens for you guys.
