NCAA Lifts Idaho's Postseason Ban in Football

I'm not sure if this has been posted but I don't think the ban would have really affected Idaho anyway.

Associated Press
3/3/15

MOSCOW, Idaho -- Idaho says the NCAA has lifted the football team's postseason ban imposed for failing to meet academic standards for the 2009 through 2012 seasons.

The school said in a statement Monday that efforts by coach Paul Petrino, who took over in December 2012, resulted in grade point averages of 2.55 in his four semesters as head coach. The ban started in the 2014 season.

Athletic department spokeswoman Becky Paull said the ban could have been extended had players not met certain goals.

The team also lost four hours of practice time per week that instead were allocated for study hall.

The school says it will get those four hours for practice back if players continue to meet academic requirements

I'm sort of two minds here. I get tired of "waivers" for everything and everybody but punishing people who weren't the cause of the problem is also bad.

I agree. You hate to punish kids who weren't involved, but how else can you punish the administration who oversaw everything that let it happen. Definitely a tough challenge. Reggae Bush is a prime example.

When Nick Holt and Dennis Erickson filled the program with thugs Robb Akey came in and cleaned house, booting a ton of criminals off the team. Of course none of them were eligible and it hammered our APR. What did the NCAA do to reward making the tough choice to dismiss a bunch of bad actors and absorb the hit to our depth? Take 8 scholarships away and slap a bowl ban on us. Great job NCAA!
