Why do you feel like, despite having similar stigmas in their respective states for some reason from what I gather, that Memphis was able to take that next step and Birmingham just hasn't been able to?

There's no question it'd be pretty cool regardless of the sport. I could definitely see an OKC kind of passion igniting for any secured sports team. I'm not even a NFL guy, but I'd go to some games if the Jaguars or something if they moved up here.

For a city to move forward, a majority of citizens actually have to want to move forward. When that happens around these parts I'll be putting my hand to the ground to see if it's cold.

Again, the NFL will not come to Alabama. People spend their money going to Alabama and auburn games on Saturday. I can't tell you how many people I've met in this state who don't even care about The NFL. Two seconds of research and the NFL would be all out.

Eventually a critical mass of people have to stop being negative about everything, and trust when someone comes forward with a huge proposal. Birmingham voted down MAPS and today our taxes are higher than MAPS proposed, and we have very few of the actual benefits (transit, dome). We've made more progress in the past 5 years than I've seen in my entire life (I'm 31, lived in Shelby County or Birmingham my whole life) but we still have a lot more to go.

1. Land a minor-league soccer franchise.

2. Support the heck out of it like they did in Vancouver, Montreal, Orlando, Minnesota

3. Get an expansion MLS franchise.
