RE: SBC Softball 4/10 to 4/12
Going from the SoCon to the Sun Belt in Softball was the biggest jump in competition, probably more than football. The SoCon is a weak conference whose tournament champion will get a 4-seed at regionals. App won the SoCon regular season two years ago on the strength of an 18-0 home record. Last year the Apps finished 7th out of 9 SoCon teams and had a coaching change. The team is hitting a lot better, but the pitching just isn't there to be competitive in the Sun Belt week in and week out. Our non-conference record has been decent, but we just have had trouble competing on weekends.

I'm not a big softball fan but I have gone down and watched a little softball this year either after a baseball game is over or before 1 starts. What I have seen of our team this year (which is pretty limited amount) is that we make lots of infield errors and just don't have a shutdown type pitcher. The SoCon was definitely a 1 bid league year after year. The Sun Belt is a 3-4 bid league. That is a huge difference.
Hopefully next year we can be more competitive.

How many did the SoCon usually send in baseball?
2 years ago The SBC sent 4 teams to baseball tourneys... Troy, USA, Cajuns, and FAU

In baseball the SoCon probably averaged 2 in NCAA regionals. I only remember 1 year in last 10 years when SoCon got 3 in. Some years there was only 1 but I think there were more years with 2 than there were years with 1.
Remember most of those years Charleston and Elon were in league. Now they are gone.

It went up and down. Last year, GaSo wasn't the only team and was a 4-seed, although they knocked off Florida State. Three years ago, the SoCon sent three teams (App, College of Charleston and Samford), all as 3-seeds, although CofC was the last team in and Samford won the conference tournament. The SoCon is a solid baseball league, but sometimes in non-conference, the at-large contenders couldn't beat the ACC and SEC teams they needed to make it.

The last time the Cajuns had a double digit inning was in 2013 against Southern Mississippi
So can I assume the Cajuns won the game today and swept Baylor?

Yep. Both games played on Saturday and the Cajuns won 3-1 and 12-2. The Friday game cancelled due to weather.

Just a long and poor year for our softball this year.
I wish your girls and Apps wouldn't play in the tourney either. Ya'll will just hurt the RPI of the top teams anyway. Useless games.
Brackets are now set up to where it is virtually impossible for either of them to get there. 5 vs. 8 for the right to play 4, 6 vs. 7 for the right to play 3. The survivors of those games then get to play the top two teams. Appalachian State will be eliminated from the conference tournament when the Cajuns come to town next weekend.
Was it like that last year? I don't remember.
Yes
True. Because at the tourney in Lamson last year, UL played WKU in our first game. I knew there were talks of changing to that format a few years back for RPI reasons. Forgot that it went into effect last year.

As of now, the conference is top 5. And has usually been no worse than top 7. During that time UL and USA have been consistently in the top 25 and have helped in the rankings, and WKU was usually entrenched in the top 50. But in the last 5 years or so the middle teams in the conference standings have really stepped up by getting multiple teams into the top 100.
