They'd be better off playing it 20 minutes away in San Marcos where the Texas State Stadium fits the purpose better. It would be really nice if we could lure the Pac-12 #8 team there and use CUSA as the backup (they have 4 Texas teams plus LaTech within easy driving distance).
Biggie, I would agree to all your points except that I'd take it even if it's in UT's stadium if it's vs PAC 8th or CUSA backup (Rice, UTEP, LA TECH, UTSA, NT) because we could bring a good AAC crowd to offset the years where the PAC's 8th place and their 100 fans come to play. I love the idea of a P5 opponent in Texas for a bowl for the AAC though..

An AAC bowl in UT's own backyard vs a PAC12 opponent, love it.
Here hope the AAC lands this Bowl.

Finally a bit of good news! This would be a great bowl in a great city for our western teams... get the PAC and it officially becomes awesome!

As someone mentioned, Bobcat stadium might be better. 30K stadium that recently went through a bunch of upgrades. Nice smaller stadium that is a stone's throw away from Austin.

RE: AAC Bowl Game in Austin?
I get that Bobcat stadium might be better but lets close that discussion because its not happening. This is the AUSTIN Sports Foundation looking to put a bowl game in ROYAL MEMORIAL. Not the San Marcos people looking. It will be at UT.
I like this a lot.

Who's the opponent going to be. That is the all important question. If it's the Sun Belt again, then no thanks.

If the AAC owns the bowl, there could be flexibility with opponents...similar to Miami. *IF* that is the case, then LR, Cure (Boca and Bahamas) become the most likely "expendables."

CUSA kids on their board trying to say they may be tied to this. If so, kill it now. Just kill it.

the Texas 4 and La Tech of CUSA would be good rotating members with BYU, and maybe a back up Big 12 or PAC school when they have years with surplus bowl eligible schools. I say go full force on this

eh - if I'm going to travel to all the way to Austin (which I would do btw for a bowl), I would want to be in a first classish type of stadium over rinky dink 25K seater place. jmo
FWIW the Texas St stadium is 30K and is a really nice very modern facility. Its only abut 20 minutes from Austin. That said, if the Pac wants DKR--then Im all for it.
San Marcos makes a ton of sense to me. Pick your poison flying in with Austin and San Antonio both viable.

Again, it doesnt matter if it makes sense, it will be in AUSTIN at UT.

If this bowl happens, UT may be favoring it as well... Who knows, this may be a game were we (Houston) play the bonghorns again
Either way, this bowl AAC vs the B12-2/PAC12 makes to much sense.
Make it happen American.

This bowl, if it happens at all, will not start until 2016-2017 season. They wont make this years deadline. The LRB and Tucson Bowls submitted prior to the deadline.

I'm told Austin filed for this year.

So they already have their TV deal as well? Impressed that they were able to move the ball so quietly over the goal line.

@McMurphyESPN: Austin, Little Rock, Tucson & Orlando applied for new bowls, sources told @ESPN. If approved, 43 bowls this year

If new bowls approved, AAC will have 9 bowls for 12 teams, highest % of bowls for any conference
