How in the hell did Virginia win 30 games this year. That "offense" is truly horrendous. 2 out of 17 from three? Apparently defense doesn't win championships.

They weren't playing the little sisters of the poor. But I agree; they are one dimensional. Kind of like the Tribe.

They are definitely offensively challenged, but today they actually got "out-packlined" by Michigan State (very similar defenses, State played it better than UVa).

Per Ken Pomeroy's numbers:

2014: UConn, 10th best D
2013: Louisville, 3rd best D
2012: Kentucky, 8th best D
2011: UConn, 13th best D
2010: Duke, 8th best D
2009: UNC, 21st best D

Kentucky's got the best defense in the country by his numbers and they'll win the title this year. I'd say defense still wins titles based on the numbers, but you have to be able to do something on offense. UVA's offense was ugly when Anderson was healthy and a complete mess down the stretch with him out/not 100%. When you're one-dimensional you are in trouble no matter what that dimension is- if you're an offensive juggernaut you have to be able to grind out an ugly win when the jumpers aren't falling. Moreso than defense, what wins titles is elite talent.

Yeah. Anderson getting injured and out for a while completely crushed them even when he came back. Defense kept them in every game and they beat some good teams along the way. This was just a very bad game for them offensively even moreso than usual

Defense does win championships, but you have to have the first part of that phrase....Offense wins games. Tough to get to a championship if you aren't winning games.

I'm no UVA fan, but the school has had some tremendous success on athletic fields recently (soccer, baseball, tennis), and of course they're one of our few peer schools academically. Not sure we're in a position to mock them.

Sure we are. Give it a try, it's fun.
