This is exactly how it was explained to me, their first criteria for seeding is who can sell tickets, and that is based on a guarantee.

Remember in the FCS football playoffs the teams with the better records don't always end up hosting games.

DJnva is right. If more Bucknells and Charleston Southerns claim NIT autos, we could bump up to a seven seed. Guessing Murray State and Iona are above us for sure. Need two more to lose to bump us to a seven

RE: NIT
FCS playoffs are seeded 1-8, after that unseeded games go to the highest sealed bidder. The NIT is seeded supposedly on merit now, not $$$. The NCAA runs the NIT now, and is trying to make it more "legit".

Interesting note I saw that the "first four out" will be the 1-seeds in the NIT. Not that it affects us really, but interesting that there will be a clear idea of who just missed out. Pretty sure if this rule had been in place in 2010 we would have been an NIT 1 seed...have to think we were right on the bubble that year.

W&M RPI was in the 70s that year. That's the very, very far fringe of bubble teams.

We also had wins over Richmond, Maryland, and Wake Forest (two of the top three teams in the ACC that year I believe). On the fringe, but I remember many of the talking heads picking us during a "blind" review of bubble teams.

This is our third trip to the NIT, if I remember correctly. It is not an every year occurrence and should be celebrated. Congratulations on this mile stone. GO TRIBE!

I wouldn't mind a rematch in the NIT if the whole NCAAT thing doesn't work out for us, but the level of clutch that your squad has developed scares me. Thornton, Dixon, and Prewitt are the three amigos that just might have enough left in the tank to hang a loss on us if we let you get close.

While we may have finished with an rpi of 73, our rpi actually ended after the conference tournament at 58. No, we were not on the "far fringes of bubble teams" but much more relevant in the conversation.

UNC finished their regular season with a rpi of 92, which is what angered me the most when it came to NIT seeding.

Here is a bracket projection right now that I made. I think W&M is a solid 7 on RPI. Higher than Bucknell or CSU (about 60 spots lower than the Tribe on RPI)

Would have to cry foul, if we're sent to play Indiana with Boatner on the coaching staff bench!!

This projection has Vandy as another 7 seed, not as a team we would play

True, but in December we were near the top 10 in RPI(wins over Wake, Maryland on the road and a close loss to UCONN). Like this year, we had some bad in conference losses that hurt our RPI. Like it or not, we need all the CAA boats to rise in the nonconference for an at large, but then it is tougher to win games in the league and in the tournament. Still fondly remember the CAA getting 3 teams in several years ago.

Ok, so now with St Francis NY, pretty certain we will be no worse than a #7 seed.

RE: NIT
Need one more team like St Francis to lose. Along with Bucknell and Charleston Southern, that's only three eights.

South Dakota State is hovering around us on RPI and are the 1 seed against the Bison (playing now). A loss would probably drop them a bit below us and have them as an 8 seed candidate. Still a few mid major tourneys to play though that would help us. Of course if our leadership could swing a 4 seed (as has been suggested to be possible) to host that would be stellar.

My dream would be we host a game and hang up a banner for this season and one of Marcus in a pregame ceremony, but that seems unlikely

According to daily press tweet, Driscoll said we will bid to host first three rounds of NIT, before the tourney moves to MSG.

Didn't realize that's how the NIT worked. I'm surprised/impressed our athletic department has the cash to do that
