RE: FN Scenario Watch
In truth, there isn't much difference in the top 5 teams, and then there isn't much difference in teams 6-12. Quite frankly, Charlotte who currently sits last (among teams that will be in Birmingham) is a pretty scary team if you ask me.

Let's just enjoy this last day of the regular season. I think we have an advantage with the tournament here in Birmingham, but it is going to be a tall order for anyone who wins the tournament. The league champion and 1 seed has a 20pt loss to UAB, a 19pt loss to ODU, and a 7pt loss to middle of CUSA North Texas.

UAB's 5 conference losses are for a combined 20pts (all on the road) for an average losing margin of 4pts. I think we've got as good of a shot as anyone, and I don't think it too much matters who we play. We crushed the 2 strongest teams besides us (IMO) in La Tech and ODU.

FN help me understand, our win over La Tech supersedes UTEP's head to head win against us?

Our only chance to surpass UTEP would've been to be in a 3-way tie with UTEP and WKU. Since each team was 1-1 against the other two, the tiebreaker would've been performance vs La Tech. We were the only team to beat them, so we would've gotten the nod.

With WKU's loss to ODU, this is now a moot point. The best we can now do is to finish 13-5 and in a tie for 2nd with UTEP and ODU. Since UTEP finished 2-0 vs UAB and ODU, they get the 2 seed. If we win tonight, we'll get the 3. If we lose, we'll get the 4 by virtue of our tiebreaker over WKU.

If MT wins, they are the 6 seed. The only way we avoid them is to lose tonight.

Why is everyone afraid of Middle Tennessee.

i) Because you know the old adage about having to beat a team three times.
ii) Because anyone in Bartow Arena last Saturday likely came close to suffering a TIA.

1) That old adage is disproved 100’s of times.
2) the team will remember that game and won't go to sleep.

Why is everyone afraid of Middle Tennessee.

Given this conference, not sure why everyone thinks it's a given MTSU will advance.

Agree with MB. A healthy Tosin and we beat them without OT. Bing em on. Oh and I agree. It's bit a given that MTSU will advance.

If I calculated correctly
7- NTX
8- UTSA
9- Rice
10- FIU
11- Charlotte
12- Marshall

An oddity in C-USA's tiebreaking seems to allow NTX to win the 4 team tie-breaker by virtue of their win over La Tech despite losing to UTSA twice (UTSA & NTX both have a 3-2 record among the 4 tied 8-10 teams (Rice 2-3, FIU 1-2)) The second tie breaker (of a multi-team tie) is record against the #1 seed proceeding down the standings until the tie is broken. It actually states that at no time is head-to-head between the two remaining teams to be used.

Charlotte beat Marshall Head-to-Head

Unless I've had too much Good People IPA, this looks correct. UAB will face the winner of WKU/Marshall on Thursday.

Sorry guys. Don't mean to butt in, but you're using the 2006 tiebreaking rules there. It might be the first one that pops up on the Google search, but they're outdated. The new rules are here on page 9. If two teams are tied in the mini-conference, head to head prevails 1(a). So, UTSA should be 7 and UNT 8.

Good luck next week. Glad we don't have to see you until the final.

I'm kind of glad not to get the 3 seed. MTSU or Charlotte. Yikes. Wouldn't want to face either of those teams. Granted, I don't think WKU (if they beat Marshall) will be a cake-walk either but I feel better about our chances against WKU than against MTSU or Charlotte.

Yeah...I feel like our biggest matchup problems would be vs MT and ODU out of the top 6. I wanted UTEP in the semis, but I think we can definitely play well against LT in the semis. Hopefully our depth will add something in the plus column.

Also the bracket is out.

UAB will play at 6pm on Thursday, with LT in the nightcap. Should we win, we will play at 5:30pm on Friday. These semi times blow.

I don't get the semi final start times, since the game Saturday is at 230. I guess for TV reasons
