Woot! Woot!
Indeed. Can't find it online but the Washington Post has a really nice LEAD AP 7-paragraph article on our team:
"Women's Roundup: Inspirational run comes to end for E. Michigan."
Tony just tweeted it a great write this could only help get a ncaa bid.
Here is the online version:

The ladies have accepted a bid in the WNIT. Very cool! Not something that anyone would've expected a couple months ago.

Sad, that two young women lost their lives and another innocent victim was injured. This isn't a story that is unique to EMU, or Student Athletes, as any of us who attended college can surely understand the epidemic of drunk driving among college students is and always has been a game of Russian Roulette. People posting at the bottom of the Mlive article are making some pretty nasty comments about these young ladies, and while they did make a poor decision; they paid the ultimate price. I can only hope that students at EMU, and our student athletes learn from this tragedy. I have a unique perspective on this issue and have responded to this type of scene too many times in my career. Anyway, I thought the article was well written and covered a lot of different perspectives and topics.

This is why in January, I cautioned people to wait for the toxicology report before we got too crazy with tributes and t-shirts, etc. This was an avoidable tragedy where she killed herself, another, and put several other lives in danger while she was foolishly behind the wheel that night.

Some of my thoughts on this:
Very, very sad story especially with all these new facts now out.
Still doesn't change the fact that this is a tragedy and these kids DO deserve a tribute even though they made a horrific mistake.
77 mph and totally shitfaced.... jeez our youngins need to make better decisions

RE: EMU's Women's Basketball
Bob,
We treated it as trageic deaths which they were. No one was under any illusions. There wasn't freezing rain, etc.
That said I've mourned the suicide of a cousin, suicide of a Priest, murder of the Priest who married me, etc.
They are more painful then the death of an uncle in his 90s.
Suicides, murders, motor vehicle deaths are all very painful because they are not natural.
I don't know that folks do flowers for saints but not sinners. I think most people pray more for sinners, then 'saints.'
We pray for people because they are human and leaving the judging and mercy to the Almighty.

Indeed, people need to get things right:
We mourn, grieve, and pray for the deceased.
The Almighty judges and offers divine mercy.
I believe Shannise had a funeral Mass in IL. It gave the church an opportunity pray for her.
