That sounds a lot like something Dr. Noland would do!

At the Tennessee Tech game it was snowing like mad. Dr. Noland handed his phone to a student and let the kid send the text that let over 15,000 people out for the day. The kid said it was the best moment of his college career, and cost Noland nothing. Everything I see the guy do, I like him more and more.
In Noland we trust.

I was sitting at the table! The kid is head of an unofficial student group called The Mutiny.
His crew got me floor tickets into the Chattanooga home game - literally saved me from the long line, randomly offering a few seats on the condition that I be LOUD and NASTY! My wife and I didn't let them down - we all gave the Mocs hell as a group effort! Recall Casey Jones' comment in the press about the crowd. The Mutiny got at least one shy smile from Mr. Jones. :)
The Mutiny has Dr. Noland's support, from tickets, to hospitality, to vans. He has promised a van plus tickets to the conference tournament. I am lucky to have been loosely involved with the crew this past season. I am no longer a traditional student but rather a full time salaried, home owning, future season ticket holding, over entitled grad student.
I've encouraged The Mutiny to organize officially as a student club. But for now, they remain grassroots, unaffiliated, and fully backed by Noland in their mission to terrorize opposing teams. When you see the big heads, hear the chants, and find the crew standing all game on the floor bleachers, you'll be looking at The Mutiny. ETSU basketball and other sports have student support, if only in a handful.

They should be encouraged to become an official club. I was the president of an official student spirit club at ETSU, and there are perks and benefits that come with being official.

I've helped found two clubs and served as VP of a third in my time as a student. They really should become official, but it will take some more prodding. On the other hand, being official may pose restraints on how nasty they can be at the games. :)
