Some of the cheap turf last 6-8 years. I wonder what brand and type Jiff installed in 2009. If he went cheap then that would explain the request.

The Field Turf cost estimator put a new field at around $850k for 97k SQ ft (about the amount for full sidelines and the Brigham Family Plaza)

I remember when Jiff did just the playing surface to cut costs. I'm sure the sidelines have to be hard as a rock with the old turf/technology.
Yea, but I wouldn't think the actual playing field would be in bad shape after 6 years. Maybe I'm wrong?
Also when they built the CPC they wanted the practice field to mirror what was in Huskie Stadium. I see no changes on the actual makeup of the field.
My understanding is it's supposed to be replaced every 10 years at most, so 6 years plus all of the practices they've had on there....might be a little early, but not by much.
Also, keep in mind, the last couple of years on the old turf saw the football team littered with injuries, and a lot of the players talked about how bad that turf was. Better too soon than too late with the replacement surface.

8-10 years is if we bought the good stuff. 6-8 years if we went cheap.
I have also heard two players mentioning how they are not a fan of the current turf condition in the stadium.

Field Turfs own site has 4 different qualities of turf fields specifically for football fields. There are obviously differences in price and longevity otherwise they wouldn't have so many different kinds.
I am getting this info directly from the Field Turf site.

I actually didn't mind Compher when he was here. It just now that we have Frazier I think the program is much better off. Same goes for Baker over Peters.

saying he cheaped it out is saying he does not care about players safety. The turf we got was state of the art for football.

A new issue that hasn't gotten much attention yet from the safety standpoint is cleanliness. There are a couple lawsuits in the works because some labs have concluded the ground-up rubber pellets not only have hazardous chemicals but there's a lot of bacteria from blood, snot, sweat, bird fecies, etc. None of that is a pleasant thought, but someone could make a fortune coming up with a disinfectant.

I don't think they will change anything about the way the turf looks. I sure hope they don't. As for the red endzones in the rendering, I don't think that means anything as for how the turf will actually look. The most realistic photo of the stadium in the master plan the turf looks like it currently does. My guess is they are just planning to replace with the same looking turf.

Only if you overexadurate what I said.
Getting Field Turf is not a bad move at all. I was just wondering if we got the kind that last for 6-8 years rather than 8-10 years to save a few bucks.
I said and meant nothing about a lower safety factor due to a lower cost turf from Field Turf.

I'm pretty sure you were one of those complaining about EMU's turf making the TV look like a black and white game.
Any color other than green is nauseating and kitschy. Moreover, the NCAA has been toying with the idea of outlawing turf colors that match uniforms (Boise State = Blue) for years because it gives an unfair advantage. The hurdle they face is how to deal with primarily green uniforms like Michigan State.
Getting black turf, or even...ugh red turf, could potentially mean having to replace it if the rule goes through. Much like a souped up '99 Honda Civic with a V-12 engine, just because you can, doesn't always mean you should.

I was joking. I would only want to see green turf. It's the color turf should be.

getting either color would suck, if they have to color something the endzones are fine or do the colored sidelines, the main field should be green. As for a rule change, there is no way they would force a school to change what already exists. It would be grandfathered in. When it needed to be replaced they would not be allowed to use non-green.
