Marcus
With just two more home appearances in his illustrious four years at W&M,let us recognize Marcus Thornton as he, perhaps, stands a day away from breaking W&M's All-Time career scoring record.

No mean feat by itself as the record has stood for an incredible sixty-five years, the longest in college basketball records. When Marcus scores point #2053 he will break the great Chet Giermak's all-time mark.

He already holds the career three point record, currently at 301 and with 121 games played for the Tribe, is second all-time to Quinn McDowell's
126.

But Marcus is much more than scoring and game records.

His arrival at William & Mary has allowed Coach Shaver and staff to increase the level of our entire recruiting process. For the first time
since 1981-82 & 1982-83 the team will have two consecutive winning seasons---no mean feat at W&M!

If we win twenty games this year it will be the first time EVER that the school has had back-to-back twenty win seasons!

The program has a bevy of young, talented players returning to keep the program rolling.

Of course none has those incredible, circus-like layups, the little leg kick on the jump short, and the Houdini-like moves that leave opponents frozen in space, rooted to the floor while Marcus zooms past.

Watching Marcus Thornton on the court for four years has been a rich
experience for Tribe hoop fans. He is a great young man, a terrific team player, and a walking advertisement for the College.

Few know how he stuck to his commitment to W&M and Coach Shaver
when a large number of big-time basketball powers continued to pursue
him even AFTER he had signed to come to W&M.

So when we watch #3 play his final two home games at Kaplan Arena
this week let's recognize Marcus Thornton for what he's done for the program....and for what he is...the greatest player in W&M basketball history.

It will be, and should be, a couple of years when his number is retired. But rest assured that no Tribe player will ever wear #3 again.

RE: Marcus
It would be really helpful to keep all Marcus-related posts on one thread.
