RE: G5 Endowments FY2015
A few observations......
-What is Rice doing in Conference USA? They don't fit there institutionally at all. They really should try to package deal with Texas to the PAC.
-The AAC has the best endowment numbers. By far the best academics top to bottom of any of the G5 conferences. This is why I have a difficult time seeing Marshall and Southern Mississippi scoring invites here.
-MAC is a solid academic group. Beyond the schools at the top, the MAC has Toledo (has medical, law, engineering, business and pharmacy schools), Western Michigan (been in the MAC since 1947) and Ball State has a good rep across that region.
-California schools of the MWC bring that conference down academically. They pale in comparison to their land grant counterparts.
-Boise State, Marshall, Northern Illinois and Georgia Southern play some of the best football in the G5. They also all have very small endowments in common. Maybe there is a coincidence........

Relationships. Rice and Southern Miss and to a lesser extent Marshall and UTEP have relationships with the AAC schools. Charlotte has basketball from a number of years back. If the AAC takes another CUSA school, look to those first 4.

RE: G5 Endowments FY2015
I suppose this statistic is important, but it doesn't take into consideration other financial factors. For example, the state of Connecticut has invested about $3 billion in UConn since 1990. I don't know what the exact amount is; it may be closer to $4 billion. It's an insane amount of money.
I wish UConn had that money before I was an undergrad in the 1980's.

If we're talking G5 academics, the AAC comes out really good with Navy, Tulane, UConn, SMU, and Tulsa.
Of course, UConn doesn't think of itself as a G5 school (no offense intended).

RE: G5 Endowments FY2015
Also, the more realistic median of the MAC is 202 mil.
UMass is out the door (and was never a full member anyway) and I highly doubt BGSU (2010 endowment of $119 mil) and Kent (2011 endowment of $109 mil) have endowments higher than $212 mil

Notice the correlation of private schools having higher endowments than the public schools. The very large majority of private schools will have higher endowments than publicly funded schools.

Usf has done a phenomenal job in this area. Ucf has finally gotten the message. It increased 40 million or so in a year. If that continues look out

Working on it, and keeping in touch with the ACC, Big 12, and B1G, too. Just not in the same in-your-face way as our cross-town friends on Cullen Boulevard.

Rice should be immediately in the AAC with other top academic and heavy endowed universities but having two universities in Houston is a negative in marketing. Rice baseball should be in the AAC with Houston,Tulane,Central Florida,South Florida and East Carolina.

I saw NR listed both for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette ULL and its sister companion school the University of Louisiana at Monroe ULM on the Sunbelt list. Wikipedia shows ULL's endowment at $112,265,103 with 17,195 students enrolled. For ULM it show an endowment of $23,157,741 with 8526 students. I never heard of a university called Louisiana in our state!

If you are inferring that there are funds being rerouted, in GS's case, that is not true.

A private school's entire budget is endowment, so of course it is higher than a public school.

Meh, you have to be careful comparing flat endowment numbers with one another. Not all endowments are created equally and certain ones in certain areas or states have various limitations on them.

Also, Idaho and NMSU are at the top of the SBC but their performance is....
Seriously, this has absolutely nothing to do with the potential or prestige of an athletic program.
