RE: Recruit Updates
Not sure if this qualifies as an update. Trey Gundy now listed as a 6'8" power forward at Hargrave. Anyone have any idea how old he will be when he arrives in the fall?
Just looking ahead to next year, we should have a pretty explosive offense.
PG- Talley
2 - Ponder
3- Jarvis Haywood
4- Trey Gundy
5- Sill a concern. If CJ could drop another 25, I'd pencil him in.
Davontae Cacok apparently had a 3 game stretch where he went 29-29 from the field.

CJ Bryce averaging 21 ppg

I don't think there will be a set starting five. Keatts will have at least ten guys who could start. Freshman Mark Matthews and redshirt junior Denzel Ingram are deadly scorers. And redshirt juniors Chris Flemings and Marcus Bryan are athletic and basketball savy. Plus, I'll fall back on the old premise. It's not who starts, but who finishes.

RE: Recruit Updates
I've been reading that Matthews is a good scorer, but not very athletic. It may take him some time to develop to a CAA level athlete

He's athletic enough and can shoot the eyes out of it. And, he's 6'6" and plays smart.

On tape he looks great. Just reading some recruiting sites about his strengths and weaknesses.

RE: Recruit Updates
If we have guys coming in and will play big at 6'7", that can certainly help motivate CJ to play like a big... hopefully.
We're really going to need him to start stepping it up next year, especially if he doesn't shed any more pounds in the coming off season. Shedding some pounds will make him a more athletic fit for Coach Keatts' style, but if he doesn't do that he absolutely needs to start using his size as a dominating force, much like Aaron Coombs did back in the early/mid 2000s.

RE: Recruit Updates
We're going to have a slew of guys in the 6'5" to 6'8" range. And, if their numbers stay consistent, a much more balanced 3 point shooting team. I watched a lot of tape on Jarvis Haywood, and he's a good shooter but his games seems to be mostly around the rim. Cacok is intriguing, even as an incoming Freshman, because he will be one of our best back to the basket post players as soon as he hits the roster. With CJ and Ogbodo not yet claiming the 5 spot, he could sneak in as a Rendleman type post player, who scores efficiently in the post.
Keatts has done a good job of balancing the roster by class for next year as best he could.
Sr. - Ponder(6'1"), Sherwood(6'9"), (Yemi)
Jr. - Gettys(7'0"), Ogbodo(6'9"), Haywood96'5"), Flemmings(6'5"), Ingram(6'0")
So - Pugh(6'1"), Talley(6'0"), Bryan(6'7")
Fr - Matthews(6'7"), Gundy(6'8"), Bryce(6'5"), Cacok(6'7")

I guess we're waiting to see if Yemi will be available?

RE: Recruit Updates
At this point we already have more LOIs signed than we have slots to give this fall...implying to me that Yemi's slot was already given away.
It seems that we have also offered Craig Randall, one of the better unsigned 2015 point guards still available out there.
http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/craig-randall-ii
He was previously offered (by among others) Minnesota, who seems to have recruited over him. That would further imply that (if that is accurate) someone in addition to Yemi would be moving on.

You're not the only one who thinks so! He's getting lots of attention. St. John's has offered him and has him coming in for a visit...telling him that he could start for them next year.

RE: Recruit Updates
Just gotta' love that Keatts ain't skeered'. He's going after high recruits where he sees a need, and also after sleepers that nobody else has on the radar. I really trust his ability to recognize talent, and can't wait to see our recruit and transfers in action next year and for the years to come.

The more we read about our recruits/targets the better the news gets. Is this real life?
