If points are your concern, there’s a lot more that a deep frontcourt can do for a team than score. Ty Taylor averaged 3 points a game in the same conference as Valpo his freshman year, I think he’s gonna be pretty good. Very different players with very different roles, but what they can do for a team is not based on points alone.

I like it. We’re finding hopefully someone who’s slipped through the cracks and will fit our system better. Now let’s go get a PG.

No one is expecting him to come close to Cacok. We've recruited bigs with much higher expectations that haven't delivered for us the way Cacok has. But, I like his upside, and his floor. Plus, we get a year to evaluate his skills against Cacok, Kalina, and O'Connell. The staff will get an opportunity to address the position again in the class of 2019.

As Gary mentioned earlier, it is also nice to see Manuel pull in a guy (my assumption). Escleeck and McGrath are active and somewhat visible. I'm sure the entire staff is active, but Wolf and Jackie haven't been as visible. on the recruiting front.

RE: Recruit Updates
While depth at PG is our biggest concern going into next season at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't bring one in. They are high on Toews, and I think they are ok with Jacque being a backup. If they can get a guy like Parker Braun, they should do it. Braun is unlikely at this point, now holding a couple of P5 offers with more to come in the next few days. But IMO if you can get a guy like him that could be All-Conference/POY type player in a couple of years, I'm willing to sacrifice not getting a JUCO PG to backup Toews. Brown proved last year he can contribute in spurts. With all this being said, I think it's likely we strikeout on Braun and the last scholarship goes to a JUCO PG.

In other news, 2019 target Trey McGowens has committed to Pittsburgh and will reclassify to the 2018 class. Crazy development for a guy we never really had a chance at getting to begin with.

I sure hope that O'Connell doesn't think he is going to be wearing number 11 next year.

RE: Recruit Updates
Double edged sword i'm seeing in recruiting so far. Going big with some guys getting P5 offers as well, but we aren't getting them. I like the aggressiveness, but i'm afraid we may be aiming too high.

As a midmajor, we've got to get those diamonds in the ruff. One of the reasons we had so many undersized guards is Keatts went after ones who could fill up the stat sheet, but were too small to be on the radar of P5 schools.

Hopefully we are not only aiming high. I would think there is a plan B also in action. Because, if we had not aimed high, we would not have gotten Blizzard.

Alex made a good point on BnB this week in regards to this. Basically talking about how Keatts was able to lock up guys like Bryce, Cacok, and Cole in the early signing period before they were on any big programs radar. Tough to get these under the radar guys in the late signing period, because if they've gone this long without signing and they are talented they will be found. McGrath getting Toews and Sims in the early signing period was key, because if they hadn't already signed their NLI they'd probably be getting P5 looks. Still think we have a solid class as it stands right now.

When discussing Braun's recent P5 recruitment, Alex Riley said it was important to identify and get a commitment early in the process, like we did with Toews. We also got both Braun and Jervae Robinson to campus. Recruiting is a cut-throat business; we're going to swing and miss, but that doesn't mean the guys we're landing are less than. I like what we have in Toews and Sims, and I think the staff will only get better.

I'm interested to see what they do this summer in regards to the 2019 class. I've seen a lot of different players that they've been in contact with, and I'm sure once they get this class finalized they'll go hard after several of 2019 guys that are on their radar.

Blizz went way under the radar, he wasn't a highly sought after recruit. Hell FSU wanted him to walk on.

I like the Freshman too. I'd like to compete next year so Cacock can go out with a bang, and i agree with most of you guys we need a Juco PG to solidify the back court

RE: Recruit Updates
I have no strong opinion on the recruits we have so far and won't have one until they hit the court. Gary, Estime and Kalina are all I have to go on right now, and they were late as well. I'm always optimistic and everyone "looks" good. Time will tell.

At the time when we offered Braun he only had offers from UW Milwaukee, UNI, and Southeast Missouri State.

Yep... Imagine if we had offered him and got him to sign during the early signing period...

They used up their ships thinking he would walk on because he was so close to the program.

Right, but also not many other big names. Blizz was just like CJ and Cacock, very under recruited/appreciated. Johnny G was the same way

Same with the players we have offered now. They were still under the radar when we offered.
