Hunter, Matthews lead North to win
It was the last game in a Green Wave jersey for Fort Myers senior Mark Matthews. It was the last memory in a black and white Mariner uniform for Rodney Hunter.
But did they ever leave a mark on their last nights together as high school basketball players.
Hunter, who's starting a new chapter with Columbia University in June, dropped the microphone with 7:19 left in the SFABC boys' All-Star basketball game on Monday at Bishop Verot with a two-hand slam between two defenders.
Matthews, headed to the University of North Carolina Wilmington that same month, followed seconds later with a step-back 3-pointer, part of his game-high 23 points as his North squad fought off a late rally from the South team and claimed a 100-97 win.
Before the tip, Matthews and Hunter were also named co-Players of the Year by the Southwest Florida Association of Basketball Coaches.
"You just have to be confident, as a scorer and as a player all around, even if your shot isn't going down," Matthews said of his game.

RE: Recruit Updates
St. John's signed another guard (their 3rd), but remains in the mix for Craig Randall: http://www.rumbleinthegarden.com/2015/3/...-thompkins
Quote:In addition to Barnes-Thompkins, St. John's has already added point guard Samir Doughty (Philadelphia) and shooting guard Brandon Sampson (Baton Rouge) for 2015. The Johnnies are actively recruiting overseas, keeping an eye on Federico Mussini and Thomas Akyazili, while they also remain in the mix for Cheick Diallo, Marcus Lovett and Craig Randall.

RE: Recruit Updates
What are our realistic chances of landing Randall? Anyone have any ideas of who else would leave other than Yemi?

After the CAAT semifinal in which he had ZERO minutes, I would agree Mullet.
Additionally, if you go back on facebook and find the video that UNCW Athletics released of the team arriving to Royal Farms Arena from the team bus, Gettys was noticably trailing everyone else and his body language looked terrible. Is it possible that he was told well before the game he wouldn't be playing?

RE: Recruit Updates
Sherwood and Ponder both could graduate and move on as well. Being both are so streaky and you never know what you are going to get from them it would be wise to consider bringing in new talent , they however do bring experience not sure about their leadership qualities

Ponder is a Hargrave Military guy and we need him next year. Don't see him leaving.

I don't think any of those guys leave willingly but there are other ways to get them to leave.Sherwood,Ponder and Pugh should all stay and if I am Gettys I can't get out of here quick enough.

RE: Recruit Updates
I though that CJ played good this year and should stay. I doubt you could do a whole lot better regarding getting a center at this point anyway. And, he looked like he was having fun out there.

If CJ continues to improve as much as he has, he will be a big asset.

RE: Recruit Updates
I agree that they can't find a player any better at this point but I am talking about his decision not UNCW.It was very obvious he has no confidence in Gettys looking at the CAA tourney.Getting killed inside, dunk after dunk and he never gets in the game?I think Gettys could be good if he steps down a notch in comp and gets to play alot of minutes. If he stays here he is a bit player and never a factor,IMO. Mullet, I agree that his limited use in the CAAT especially the NU game could be indicative of his future in a Seahawk uniform. However, I don't think that was without cause. CJ has certainly improved since he first arrived, but many times this year we saw him playing extremely soft for his size and nearly unwilling to play tough down low at times. There were numerous times that he was bullied in the paint by opposing players that he easily out-sized. That being said, I'm not especially sold that he's going to be a dominant force that he should be at his size.
I want to see what Coach K's system looks like next year with a full stock of his players. We've seen him already develop a PG that has good things written all over him. Now I want to see what the transfers and incoming recruits will all be about. At this point, there's no reason to believe that he can't get players to buy in and be productive. CJ is the one that is going to need to prove himself in this situation, IMO, not the other way around.

RE: Recruit Updates
CJ could be very good. IMO, he has to get into the 250lb range for that to happen. He has a very slight build, and simply does not carry a lot of weight well. It hampers him getting in position to defend, stops him from elevating on offense or defense, and make him a liability because he can't get down the floor on offense, then back on defense. We play a style that transitions back and forth very quickly. CJ is constantly lagging both ways. I'll know if he is serious about being a Div1 athlete if he commits to dropping another 20+ in the off season, and comes back in the fall around 250. If he remains the same, he's going to ride the pine.

RE: Recruit Updates
I think Gettys has proven that he is not a player whose skills work in this system.I understand that it seems like he should buy in and lose weight, etc, etc. and if he does he still sits the bench and plays maybe 10-12 minutes a game at best.I am thinking about his future as a player. He seems a little soft, not in shape to play to a game that goes at warp speed 94 feet.He would be better served at a school that played the game that Buzz sold him on is my opinion.I think he should transfer if he wants to play significate minutes.

I think it would be a smart move on his part. He would have a chance to sit out a year, get into even better shape, and play in a system more designed for his game.

RE: Recruit Updates
Let's see if he gets a chance against Sam Houston State's 6' 11" beast. And, if he does, how well he fairs.
