For sure. Without one we are just an episode of foul trouble, an injury, or off the court issue away from being exposed and exploited inside.

Thus the issue last season. Couldn’t agree more

I would take a Brian Rowsom right about now and feel good about it. Heck, a Matt Fish or a Ced Williams or a Larry “the Snake “ Houzer would work too.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but Hemphil committed elsewhere. St Francis of Brooklyn. Seems like an odd spot to land.

He wasn't a fit; I never liked him anyway.

RE: Basketball Recruit Updates
I saw that too gents. Hawks need just 1 more big, not a bad place to be in. I feel much more confident going into year 2 than year 1 at this point. Should be a lot of fun to keep up with a team that finally has enough firepower and actual bodies. It was tough watching them at the end of last year with so few players.

Larry Houzer is something of a forgotten Seahawk. The guy knew how to get his points!

And from another article
What is your relationship with Coach Siddle?
We’ve been talking for a month now so I think our relationship is pretty strong and we continue to keep talking. He asks about my mom every day, so I think our relationship is pretty intense. I look forward to keeping in contact with him. Getting closer and coming up to campus more.
I’m actually going back to NC State right after this camp because we have our team camp there and I’ll spend some time with him and Coach Keatts that week. So, I look forward to keep building a strong bond with them two. We'll see what happens.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And for those that like to read the grape leaves of Twitter, he follows Siddle, Ponder and Jamahri Harvey
He and Harvey are HS teammates. He's enticing for sure, but that puts a lot on the shoulders of Kelly and McGriff, and means White, Ogelsby, etc. will play out of position.
Ah, that explains that connection. Seems unlikely but I've decided to be hopeful.
I don’t mean to offend you with this, but I’m not hoping for that. We need size or we end up in the same scenario as last year, especially if we suffer more significant injuries.
Not getting another big with the last available scholarship would be disappointing.

I'd take a Shakeel Moore over a Trey Kalina is all I'm saying.

Add another to an already crowded position and have a repeat of getting destroyed on the boards like last year, or, add to a position of need that can help make that not happen. Easy decision

That's fair.
But for the record, i don't think it needs to be a Trey Kalina at this point. There are still a lot of decent looking options that would help our need.

Agree. Portal is still open until June 1st and it feels better filling one spot rather than 2. Kelly came out of nowhere, so there is no panic.
With Moore, State fans have said that Moore wants to be the man. If that is true, and I don't know that it is, I don't think he is that from day 1 here. With two roster spots open and a lot of the back court graduating in 2022, he'd be a great option. I question whether or not the fit is there with us; if he wasn't willing to wait at NCSU/ACC, will he wait until year 2 at UNCW/CAA?
Based on our roster, I think it would make more sense to add two bigs, with one being a 5th year guy.

I see us only using one more scholarship. Having 14 scholarship players, especially if none of them are redshirting doesn't make much sense to me. Don't see Shak Moore considering UNCW at all. He's a P5 talent, not sure what happened at State but I'd be shocked if he ended up at a mid-major. Plenty of guys available that fit the mold of what we're looking for in a frontcourt player.

I thought about that Gary. Maybe you use the last on a juco, but it really has to be someone that doesn't expect immediate playing. On the other hand, someone with enough potential to contribute year 2, maybe year 3. I imagine that is a narrow list, so we'd be better off "saving" the scholarship.

RE: Basketball Recruit Updates
Talent at PG is handling the ball very well, passing and driving well, setting up teammates, good on ball defense and being able to stick a 3 ball or get a mid range on your own. Having a good floater helps big and being able to finish through contact and get fouled is big. This is what I think of when evaluating a point talent wise. This is why I think that we are pretty much good and I’m not sure you’re adding a ton in this case.

Both of our big men are younger, so i'd prefer a Senior so we don't have a long term battle for PT at the 5.

Kelly is pretty polished looking to me from the little bit of video and he was in an A10 program for 2 years or so.

Recruiting has not been Keatts' issue, especially guards. He has lifted expectations, which means this year is really important for his future. 8 seed or lower in the tournament without advancing to the round of 32 probably gets him fired.
