ahhhh, finally the fire Shaver crowd begins to amass..... as someone mentioned earlier, if we had taken care of business against the cellar of the CAA, this game would not be as critical. On to Hofstra....

Every one of us has posted some negative thoughts after a loss, except for 62Indian who usually chimes in with "I Love this team."
It just means you care whether we win or lose. When you see some of our games and effort this year, it makes a night like tonight hard to stomach. Much better to have a night like this tonight than March 7 through 9th. We do need to win out(6 straight).

Preach on brother!
I agree about the lack of adjustments. Even if Shaver tried what JMU does and press until the other team crosses halfcourt, that could at least get Northeastern out of the rhythm they were in.
That being said, when Omar and Marcus only combine for 21 points, W&M isn't beating most teams in the country.

At least Marcus is getting a bunch of garbage time points. Will make it that much easier for him to break the record at home against Towson

W&M is shooting over 50% from the field and from 3 with only 8 turnovers and is losing by double digits. That's impressive.

My concern with Sheldon is growing. We are really going to need some sort of inside presence to keep teams honest come tournament time.

It would be nice if Drexel would beat NU on Saturday.
NU has owned us in Boston - let's hope we play better against Hofstra in NY. Just need to win one.

I think there were a total of 105 possessions in the game. This might be one of the slowest tempos for a game this season for any college game

No urgency and no hustle is the recipe for a bad defense. NU wanted it more.

The issue is not that you're too negative; instead, you're rarely positive. You seem to relish failure and I-told-you-so hindsight. If we win the CAA Tournament, have the courage to give credit where it is due. That credit will not stem from your insight displayed on this message board.

Shaver sounded as disgusted in tonight's performance as I was. Hopefully he spends his time breaking down game films and not reading this message board for my coaching "words of wisdom". Perhaps I would be more positive if I was a Duke fan, but thankfully I had the good fortune to attend W&M instead. If we did not lose to Elon, CofC, and Delaware (TWICE!), I would not be so pissed about tonight. This is why you have to be ready and come to play EVERY NIGHT!

RE: @ Northeastern
Last year, we were 12-6, finished 3rd and then were not one shot, but 1 minute and 20 seconds of solid play from winning the CAA tourney. If we win our last three, we will be 13-5, probably still finish first and have things set up for another potential run. Will Dixon return at all? If he does, will he be effective? When Thornton, Dixon and Prewitt play well, we are as good as any team in the league. Still a lot to play for.
Also, I wish Tarpey was a little more confident on his shot. I love the rest of his game(and we cannot live without it). But, both he and Oliver Tot are tentative when open. They might as well be Sheldon setting a screen from the top of the key when they are in that spot. Both seem to have a good outside shot, I know Tarpey has really worked on it and he made 2 tonight.

Was Tot in the doghouse tonight? I didn't see him in the 2nd half when I watched most of it. I did see Burchfield in there on the back line of the zone who was no match and looked so much smaller than all the Northeastern guys. I don't get that player usage at all especially when we are getting crushed on the boards and Burchfield isn't shooting the ball or a threat on offense.

Tribester, I don't think any of us will ever be "mad" when another poster writes his or her opinion no matter how illogical or shortsighted that opinion may seem.
Bad loss to a good team at their place. We're right up there with UNCW and NU so let's act like somebody and push forward.

One last comment on the next 19 days and then it will just play out: At this point last year, can you honestly say you thought we could beat Delaware or Towson? Yet the Tribe did beat Towson and should have beaten Delaware. This year, for the first time since Tony has been our coach, there is no CAA team we can't beat.(no Mason, no ODU, no 16-2 Delaware) So, there is real hope and 3 tournament victories and a #1 seed would not be an upset. Hopefully, tonight was the last bump in the road.

RE: @ Northeastern
It is true that there is no CAA team we can't beat. It is also true that there is no CAA team that can't beat us on any given night. Baltimore will come down to who gets hot and who wants it the most. If the Tribe shows up not ready to play, they will be back in the' Burg by Saturday night.
Here are some positives from the game tonight.
1) Tarpey had a nice bounce back game tonight.
2) Hopefully Marcus found his scoring touch in garbage time tonight and can carry it over to Long Island Sunday.
3) Nice to see Malinowski hit some threes again after a bit of a slump of late.
4) Whitman with some flashes near the end (where has he been lately?)
We are in a three way tie for 2nd now, with Hofstra just one back in 5th, and Drexel just two back in 6th! Yes, we could win out and hope for a UNCW loss giving us the #1 seed. We could also lose out and finish 5th-6th, maybe even play Friday as the 7 seed (we lose the tiebreaker to Delaware if they win out and we lose out.) Winning Sunday on NBCSN would be highly recommended at this point just to stop the death spiral that we seem to currently be in. I blame USAToday for tonight's egg btw!

Actually. 62Indian has never said "I love this team". I know this for a fact. I am however, probably less critical of the players and/or the coach than other fans on this board.

Towson yes, Delaware no. Towson wasn't consistent on the offensive end of the court and you just had to keep Benimon from grabbing every rebound, which the Tribe managed in the CAA tourney game.
Didn't think they could beat Delaware just because of how balanced there scoring was. That team they had was the most potent scoring starting 5 I can remember in the CAA for a long while.

RE: @ Northeastern
We all now realize how important Dixon is to our team. Not just scoring but, more importantly,
on defense where he usually draws our opponents top player. He is on a treadmill now but there is no guarantee he'll be back..and if he does come back, what kind of shape he'll be in
for a conference tourney and if the hamstring will hold up.
Kind of shocked at Sheldon's current abysmal non-play. No shots last night (not one shot!!!)
and just two rebounds in 19 minutes of play; where has Sean gone in the past week or so?
We seemed to fall into a somnambulant daze last night...no pressure and relaxed defense let
NE string out the clock and we played on offense with no energy and little taking advantage of our very athletic guys.
Crowd was a pathetic 917 for a very good Northeastern team battling for first place. So we can't say we lost due to a highly partisan, electric crowd. Perhaps it felt like a practice.
We need to come out with energy and aggressiveness Sunday at Hofstra, a court where we have a history of awful losses.
Win that game and we come back for two home games and a wholly different attitude.
