While it would sure help Their cause to get a P5 upgrade possibly in the Big 12 or maybe an ACC invite , Louisville Vs Cincinnati and Memphis have had a long term rivalry together. I'm sure games here and there are in the future, They would greatly increase the chances with P5 invites for both of Them.

Yes to Cincinnati. Would also love to see Jurich start up our rivalry with Marquette again. Those 2 are the ones I wish we would continue scheduling. Those UofL/Marquette games were so much fun and always so close

They dominate in football but are less douche than most P5.
The shared isolation helps the fans tend to pull for each other when not playing.
Idaho has even rented their stadium before .

WSU has a big advantage in the W L column does any G5 have an edge?

UC leads the Keg of Nails vs Louisville 30-22-1

Also, Miami (OH) leads the Victory Bell with Cincinnati 59-53-7, and Louisville leads the Governor's Cup with Kentucky 13-8. So by the transitive property of college football, Miami is better than the SEC 04-cheers

SJSU and Stanford (San Jose beat them the year they went to the Rose Bowl with Ty Willingham as a matter of fact).

ECU-UNC/NCSU/Va. Tech and South Carolina. Heck, maybe just half the ACC plays ECU every now and then. New Mexico and Texas Tech is another.

I would say Memphis/Ole Miss is bigger for both parties. Both admins officially recognize it as a rivalry and the fan bases can get pretty nasty with each other. While it may not register nationally, it is very important to both schools as they compete for resources...recruits, students and corporate support in the Memphis metro. As far as UT goes, that series is hung up on basketball with Memphis being the hold out from what I understand. The Tigers are a bit unique in being considered major in one sport and mid in another. This leverage can help/hinder (Ole Miss/UT) getting P5 to play H&H.

I thought I read where the UofL/UofM series is continuing...may just be basketball though...

If Marshall and WVU isn't a rivalry is there a term for when the majority of both fanbases hate each other, root against each other, and can't shut up about each other?

I do believe they have a series in basketball schedule but thats it. UL has a H&H with Houston in football then that spot opens up, hopefully we will put Cincy & Memphis in there on a rotating basis.

Yes. It's called the UConn-BC effect.

We have one of those and as best as I can tell, it is called "It's Not a Rivalry!".

I was going to mention this one as well. I think the two will end up playing again sometime soon, but as the two teams split conferences, they didn't have matching openings in the near future (we both needed home games the same seasons, and both had room for road games at the same time).

The only side that "hate each other, root against each other, and can't shut up about each other" are the Marshall fans. Most WVU fans don't even recognize that Marshall exists on a day-to-day basis. I couldn't even tell you who Marshall plays next, nor do I really care.

EDIT: I live in Morgantown so that's where this comment comes from...

I still love the Syracuse/Rutgers post. My original reply was deleted. Those basically are two G5 programs. Who knows where the Syracuse hoops program would be without cheating.

Well like many other things in this state. It's much different down south.

I have no hate for Marshall. My father covered Marshall as well as WVU. He knew everyone on the plane crash, and was supposed to be on that flight himself. Only a last minute change prevented him from being one of those killed.

But frankly, the vast majority of WVU fans don't think of Marshall one way or the other. There's a small vocal minority that likes to deride the Herd for trying to build themselves up at WVU's expense. But the only reason that any games have been played at all is due to political pressure. Playing Marshall doesn't serve any purpose for WVU. There are no advantages for WVU to play Marshall in Morgantown, and there certainly aren't any for WVU to play a game in Huntington.

I like to see Marshall do well, since they're from West Virginia. But I could care less if WVU ever plays Marshall again in football. It helps the Mountaineers not at all.

During the UTSA debacle to open UH's new stadium, I was sitting next to a Marshall alum at the bar at Buffalo Wild Wings who was all things WV, including wearing a hat. So even WV fans go to Marshall.

I know a handful of WVU alums. I have never heard them say anything about Marshal. But, they are quick to say just about anything about anybody else.

I used to root for both until the constant Marshall bashing, which is borderline angry and aggressive, just got too annoying.

I'm pretty indifferent these days. I don't root against them, but I'm not rooting for them either. Unless I'm around an obnoxious fan then I'd like to see them lose.

This isn't 1983, how is Louisville and Houston a rivalry in any sport? It's flattering from UH's perspective but let's be real. And I don't think UH has beaten Louisville in football since 1996, the first year of C-USA when the 'Ville was putrid.

Edit: Houston upset them in 2002, I believe the last season of John L. Smith. Never the less, Louisville has won six of the last seven football meetings and God knows what the basketball ratio is, the winning streak is 3.

Houston? Marshall? USF? WKU?

Cincy is the only legit team on that list who are our true rivals
