3rd Annual Shenandoah Valley DC Poker Tournament - 2/14
It's that time again for poker in the Valley. The Shenandoah Valley Duke Club Chapter is hosting its annual poker tourney on Saturday Feb 14. Registration opens at 9am & play begins at 10am, lunch is provided, great raffle prizes on hand, a cash prize pool of $5,000, and registration is only $100. Up to 90 players can register, and the last count I heard was there are over 60 so far so there's not a lot of space left. The event has been quite a hit, and turned in over $8,000 last year toward athletic scholarships. Hope a couple more of you can make it out; the ones who have been there in past years will tell you it's a good time.

Any reason why they would hold this tourney on vday? while I am one of the lucky ones whose wife could give a **** about the holiday most of us are not so lucky. Seems dumb to hold the tourney on that date.

Scheduling is a tough sport. February works best for this tournament. Some of the considerations are other local poker fundraisers (Lions just held theirs a week or 2 back, so spacing between that one and this one), dates that the facility is available to reserve, also avoiding home or big away games for programs like M/W Basketball, etc and the 14th just happened to be the date with the least conflicts. Valentines day aside, the tourney starts at 10am and wraps up in the late afternoon which leaves plenty of time for the evening to get home to the Mrs (or Mr!) and carry on with other plans.
