RE: Whoa
I'm not surprised, in fact, I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often. My freshman year in 2000-01, friends of mine, let's say, befriended some locals. Invited them back to party in their dorm. About an hour later, after one of them went to go get pizza and the other went use the toilet, they basically stole all their video games, systems, cash and other consumables before leaving the dorm.

This kinda stuff happens all the time, on every college campus. I know several different people that had similar things as you described happen to them up at State.
My sister, also at State, left her room (unlocked) for a minute to talk to the RA. Came back and laptop, phone, Ipod and wallet were all gone.
Although, I don't hear of too many robberies at gunpoint.

RE: Whoa
I lived in the basement of Davis Hall my third year, someone ripped out the window screen, climbed in and stole my roommate's game CDs and my laptop after they slid the chain lock into place.
Side note: chain locks are worthless for keeping people out, if they want in.

and even worse about keeping people out that shoudl be in. A few years back my fiancee's sister and her friend shared a triple room with a random roommate. Third night of the year, random roommate locks the door with the chain and falls asleep. they had to call WMU police to cut the chain to let them in the room, then had to pay to have the chain replaced.

RE: Whoa
Evidently the armed robbers knew the victim and specifically sought him out, and they had an altercation earlier in the day.
