RE: Men's golf preview
Since everyone else has been posting facility upgrades, and someone brought up golf, figured I'd throw this in. This was completed last year about this time, but should help more this year and next. Recruiting should actually get better from where we were. New indoor facility, locker rooms and a place to call their own.

The Cajuns Athletic Master Plan actually had a golf facility being constructed, but I'm pretty sure it's way down the list of possibilities. It might be more likely if the university actually had a golf course, but the team uses a couple of private local courses for their work. One of them is used for the Buy.com tour event and does have a training center on site. My thought was they'd contract with that course to build a separate facility for the university, but it will have to be a wait and see as to how much money is left in the pot after all the other 110 million in construction is completed.

There's also a part of it to make some of the tennis courts at the complex into indoor courts to give them some all weather use.

The Georgia Southern University golf program ranks as a perennial national power, and with the addition of the Bennett-Ramsey Golf Center, that tradition will continue for many years to come.

The 25-acre facility consists of a team clubhouse, a dedicated practice putting green, a three-green short-game area, a two-tiered practice tee, a driving range and three practice holes.

The Howard House clubhouse, named in honor of Mr. Arthur Howard and his family, totals 6,000 square feet. Included within the clubhouse are coaches’ offices, a locker room, a conference room, a kitchen, a team lounge area, an indoor putting lab, a club repair area, a computer and study area for student-athletes and a "Hall of Fame" entry way.

The three practice holes are each designed to be played from multiple tee boxes to maximize the practice facility and allow many different yardages to be played. The first hole is a 390-yard, par 4; hole two is a 185-yard, par 3, and the final hole is a 330-yard, par 4. Each green on the practice holes has been designed to have at least three distinct target areas, allowing for up to three different pin locations and making the facility a nine-hole course.

"The Bennett Ramsey Golf Facility and the Howard House have surpassed all of the dreams that I had for a practice facility here at Georgia Southern," said head coach Larry Mays. "We are so lucky to have such great support from our boosters, the community and our athletic administration to produce such a beautiful facility. The results of all of the hard work are apparent both by the players that we have been able to recruit to play for our team and by the ability to develop those players here at the practice facility. I look forward to the many years of success that the facility will bring to Georgia Southern Golf."

Fine with me. That pre-spring #1 pick is pretty much the kiss of death. No way we win the conference now.

Preseason rankings mean everything to this conference. Lucky we didnt play ULL and StAte in football given their preseason rankings.

Don't forget about Georgia Southern's 18 hole course. Voted one of the best new golf courses of 2014 by Golf Digest

UTA's men's golf coach steps down. Jay Rees had been at the helm since 1999. Assistant coach will guide the team through the season.

Rees did a good job with the team. it will be intersting to see who we get to replace him. the new generation of coach hires at uta seem to be good ones so far.

Golf has been pretty consistent over the last few years. We always seem to be in the top 50, #43 right now.

Way to **** the bed App. 30 strokes off the lead at +20.

In all fairness to App, golf is a six months a year sport in Boone given the ground is frozen from Halloween to Easter.

Ga. Southern leading by 20 strokes (yep 20 strokes) after 2 rounds of Sun Belt Men's Golf Tournament. GS at minus 14. Troy is in 2nd at plus 6.

Looks like a sure championship for us here. I don't think we can blow a 20 shot lead after 2 rounds with 1 round to go tomorrow.
