They had a very fun season to watch. Hoping Vad Lee is back and maybe some DiNucci action as well. I think Ron’Dell even signed before hitting the Patriots PS for a brief time.

Oh right. I forgot that was the USFL. I thought it was the Alliance coming back.

Flip's New Orleans Breakers won their week 2 game yesterday and are 2-0.

The USFL is really weird on the game locations... seems like lots of neutral sites. The New Orleans/Houston game yesterday was played in... Birmingham?

Weird, and hardly conducive to hometown fan support or gate receipts.

I've only seen a couple USFL games but it literally looks like no more than friends and family of the players in the stands. XFL seems to be doing much better... I think I saw the stat yesterday that St. Louis has had >30,000 for each home game

I get they want to keep costs down, but how do you expect to get a city behind “their team” when they haven’t ever played there? Anyway, the USFL has several bubble sites:

Birmingham: Birmingham Stallions and New Orleans Breakers.
Memphis: Memphis Showboats and Houston Gamblers.
Detroit: Michigan Panthers and Philadelphia Stars.
Canton: New Jersey Generals and Pittsburgh Maulers.

At least it is better than last year when all games were in Birmingham. It is interesting that New Jersey and Pittsburgh are paired up but neither is in their "home" state. I'm guessing that they will work to get all eight teams into their home cities next year...?

I do think it's stupid for these leagues to pretend that they're ready for large 40K+ stadiums. It really makes it look terrible when it is only 10% full. MLS had that same problem, but at least then most of the teams realized that a 20-25K stadium could create a better atmosphere than an empty NFL stadium.

Why not find a venue like Rutgers to play for both Philly and NJ, and then have Pittsburgh and Michigan in Canton? Maybe Birmingham and Memphis together as well as Houston and New Orleans paired.

Well, I would think it depended on which stadiums they were able to get access to. Memphis, Detroit, and Canton could fit them in. I do agree that Rutgers would be better than Canton and that NJ and Philly could be there. Hell - put them in Princeton's stadium even. Pittsburgh and Michigan can then play in Detroit.
