RE: Don't lose heart!
Once again, nobody is blaming Buzz for the mindset. It was here before he arrived. He was unable to change it. Now it's Keatt's turn. And, so far, I see changes in that mindset. Sometimes it has resurfaced. But I see it gradually going away. It's BS to say these guys have suddenly matured on their own between seasons. Maybe it would have more credence just for the seniors. But it has happened with the sophomores and juniors also. The one having the toughest time is a senior. And our pg, being a freshman, is already there. They didn't just suddenly get it. It had to be instilled.

RE: Don't lose heart!
Raise you're hand if you're blaming Buzz for any of our 8 losses this year?
Unbelievable Mullet. Where do you get some of this from?
Also, we're 8-8, not 7-8.

Mullets right about the naia win not really counting. We Are 7-8 against ncaa competition. This team definitely has the potential to be a too tier caa team but we have got to learn basketball is a 40 minute game

Oh, now I see what he was getting at.
So, it's classless (according to Mullet) for us to talk about how a lot of the positive changes in this year's team are due to the new coach, but completely okay to just diss the ENTIRE team by not including a regular season win in their record, regardless of the competition level. I know it was NAIA, but still.
Throw stones from glass houses much Mullet?

1. Why, if we are a drive to the bucket team, do we shoot so few FT's compared to our opponents? We attempted one...ONE FT in the first half against the Tribe, and scored the bulk of our points in the paint. William and Mary took six in the first half, and 20 in the second half as they drove to the basket(we took 13), and outscored us 21-9 at the line for the game.
Hofstra had 43 FT attempts to our 15 and outscored us at the line 28-10. They went to the line 25 times in the 2nd half to our 5 attempts. How in the world do you overcome that, and what are they doing to get to the line that we aren't? Or, what are we doing so that we are committing so many fouls and putting them on the line?
Between the two, we were outscored 49-19 at the line.
2. Our defense is horrendous. We give up 71.4 ppg, and 68.4 ppg in the CAA, next to last in the conference. Yet, we are 2nd in the CAA in FG% on defense and 5th. in 3pt. defense. I can only attribute this to the amount of FT's we give up in a game, which we can't defend. We're first in steals, and second in blocked shots.
You know. Now that I look at this, it really does come down to FT discrepancies. The losses to W&M and Hofstra were really at the line. We could easily be 5-0 instead of 3-2 without that difference. When W&M and Hofstra made their runs, it was with FT's. So, what do we do to play solid defense, but cut down on the fouls that allow teams to score with no defenders, and stop the clock while doing so?
82hawk raises a really good question here--what do folks think about this?

I do agree that the Buzz teams lacked identity but I also don't see it with this team either-yet.Are they a defense first team, perimeter shooting team, pound it inside, drive it to the hoop team? They play hard but that is what they should do and that is not an identity.I also read a lot about conditioning early on but I have seen the bigs gassed more than a few times and I don't see that as a huge up grade over last year, maybe a slight tick upward.
If you are D1 you have no business playing a NAIA team even in an exhibition game, maybe a closed door scrimmage but not in front of fans.
I get it that you guys are in love with Keatts and that is understandable but not rational.Every time a statement is made like- this team would lose this game last year, it is a total dig and if you can't admit it, I get that.
The team had talent last year and should have won more games, IMO.I am on board with this team winning this year and if they don't go at least .500 I would see it as a failure. They can finish in the top half in the CAA and should win at Trask against anybody in this league.I don't think they can win on the road but would not be shocked if they do.I see them as having a real chance in the tourney.

Wow! Talk about identity. That post was all over the place. At least you can justify yourself as being right about this team, no matter how they do.

Ok. It's apparent that the rest of us need group therapy. It has become quite obvious that all of us on here, except mullet, are delusional and in denial. We can't continue to go on lying about our feelings. Group hug.

Of note - our final Pomeroy ranking last year was 278. We are presently 204. That's reason for feeling better. Not great but better.

I disagree with the notion that this team cannot win on the road. We have gone to boston and won. This team can can go and compete and even win in the road. In the same token they can lose at home against teams they should beat by double digits. This team is inconsistent. But to say there is improvement between the past and now is just stating the obvious. Dont know how it can be considered a slight to state the fact, especially from someone who has never been shy of an honest assessment in the past

RE: Don't lose heart!
Guys,
Jumpin is just keeping it real here and he makes some valid points. The direction of the program is skyward however and I"m sure that Jumpin knows that as Keatts get great players. He's talking about what is going on now. It's better, yes. Could it even be better? Um...Yes! There's room for this team to be far above what it is now. The talent is there. Keatts has his system and want to play this way. And, there's going to be growing pains. If anyone has noticed, our Hawks have pounced on many an opponent but don't have enough #'s to sustain it and build/or the guys get tired/content etc... The bench is somewhat small so you either expand or hope guys can continue the sustained pressure. He's our coach and that's his way. He has great players coming in and waiting to play his style.
Do I think that they should mix is some token pressure and zone against certain teams? Yes. Still, I'm not the coach and love this guy. He's a winner and will eventually win because he gets players. That is something that UNCW hasn't had since the Blizzard days. They had a squad.
This team is very capable regardless of Sat. If they can gel, the sky is the limit. Go Hawks!!

Hey, here's an identity.....winning. I like that identity. We've beaten the teams we should and our conference losses have been to a pair of teams that we can expect to finish in the top 4 of the conference.

Exactly SN08. While it would be nice to squeak out another upset or two, let's stay in our mental lanes for now. I'm with ya man.
