Free Throws
Okay, after a bit of wondering and research, I found some good information on our team and FREE THROWS. I didn't count the DII and exhibition games.

I looked at 14 games.

UNCW was outscored at the line in 10 of those games, with one even, and three where we scored more at the line.

ODU +3, Campbell -3, UNCG +10, Minn +10, Davidson +6, Ohio +8, Louisville +9, NE +3, Liberty -15, Delaware +7, ECU -6, Drexel even, Hofstra +18, W&M +12

UNCW 19.35 attempts per game, 13.3 made ft per game(68.7%)
Opp - 24.9 attempts per game, 16.86 made ft. per game(67.7%)

We're actually shooting a better percentage in comparison, we just don't get to the line as much. It's perplexing, because we are a team that drives to the bucket and scores in the lane, and we're next to last in the CAA in 3 pt. attempts.

But, most of all, the losses to W&M and Hofstra are directly related to the FT point differential.

If we had shot the same number of FT's as the Tribe, even though they shot 81% from the line, the FT point differential would have been 4 instead of 12(8 points). With Hofstra, the differential at the line would have been ZERO instead of 18(18 points). A big enough difference to win both games.

Our 6 wins - +.16 pts. from the line
Our 8 Losses - -7.875 pts. from the line

RE: Free Throws
I like how you involved the FT attempts and numbers and the 3pt attempts and numbers to compare where we are in terms of other teams around the CAA.

It would certainly be a more difficult metric to take a look at, but we also take A LOT of mid-range jumpers. IMO, we do a great job of sharing the ball on the perimeter, but a lot of our turnovers come when we move the ball around on the inside. Obviously, that area is naturally more clogged with defenders but our guys need to ensure they're making a good pass. Some of those turnovers in the 2nd half yesterday against WM were just absolutely careless mistakes that can't happen when you're trying to hold a lead.

Jordan, Freddy and Addison all need to do a better job of driving in and going strong to the basket to draw fouls. They all have that ability. I'm taking Ponder out of that equation because I see him as more of a perimeter guard in the 2 spot. He also needs to be smarter on defense. A lot of our FT differentials have been the result of stupid, stupid, fouls. That's growing pains that some guys like Talley will figure out as they progress. I'd be willing to bet that a lot of CAA coaches are telling their players to make sure they get in the paint and draw fouls on us early. That destroyed us yesterday.

RE: Free Throws
I've noticed sometimes we drive to the bucket with our first intention being drawing a foul, NOT trying to score. You cannot depend on the zebras so much. If they see you driving with your head down or wildly going to the hoop, you're much less likely to get to the line. Try to score first, and if you get the whistle, even better.

Freddie has done a nice job getting "And-1's" for us in stretches this year. If Talley, Ponder and Spruill can start earning more and-1s themselves, we'll see that discrepancy in FT's go way down.

Oh, and of course, defense comes into play here. In the 2nd half last night W&M was spreading the floor and finding lots of space in the middle. Our guys were forced to foul as a result. That's a big part of the equation as well. Gettys especially needs to work on his footwork and avoiding bad fouls.
