Coaches' Tables...
Still updating the info on the Coaches' Tables.

The original was in Ye Old College Inn, and George Martin would have diners sign the table. George and his wife Lottie also signed it.

When YOCI was closing, the table was moved to Kaphan's, where it was kept with other Houston sports history items.

When Kaphan's was closing, the daughter of Joe Davis, Martha, was part of a group that included Fred Goldsmith and Bobby May who purchased the table and brought it to Rice.

Fred and Bobby felt that more signatures should not be added to it, so it was placed on display, and they started a second table in 1990, and that table continues to get signatures.

They also commissioned a set of full size replicas, cast in bronze from a mold of the original, to be sold to raise money for athletics.
Neither Fred nor Bobby can recall how many or how much they sold for.
One replica remains - it is coffee table height, and currently resides in the R-Room Hall of Fame along with the original.

Martha (Davis) Stewart and her husband Don created a binder with pages about the history of the original Coaches' Table, as well as bios for the people who signed it.
They couldn't figure them all out, and they didn't list everyone.

RE: Coaches' Tables...
I've spent quite a bit of time chasing those names, and haven't found much of anything.
Bruce Patterson may have been involved in golf, as I found another Bruce Patterson who is the right age to be the son of someone who signed the table as much as 100 years ago.

AlmadenMike may have better luck with search results than I've had.
Some of you may also recognize a name.
Any help would be appreciated in chasing down the missing details.

RE: Coaches' Tables...
Jimmie Scoggins was a freshman coach for Vanderbilt in 1940, so it's possible he was in town for the 1939 game.

I found the Vandy results, but not anything for Clemson.
Thanks for helping me dig.

I missed two NIFs in my first post -

Ron Betchen
"Hoot" Bible (almost has to be a relative of D.X.)

RE: Coaches' Tables...
Bill Judy was a basketball coach in the Roanoke (VA) area in the 1940s, don't know how that translates to being at a Rice event though.

RE: Coaches' Tables...
When would the latest signature have been added top that table?

If it wasn't until the 1970s or so, could Jim Hinen be Jim Hines, the 1968 Olympic 100 champion from TSU?

Signings probably continued until YOCI closed.

Thanks to InterestedX we have a readable copy.
If you click on the copy posted here, it will take you to the WordPress copy, which is enlargeable.
I haven't gone over the list thoroughly yet, but I see at least at least a couple of errors -
It's Clarence "Red" Marable, not Maxable.
And there are not two Comstock signatures, only Merle's.
