Drexel is pressing and playing tight defense now trying to make a comeback. Ponder should NOT be on the court here. We need to give it Talley. Let him break then make a good pass to CJ down low. Let's go guys. Smart ball here.

I don't like the strategy here. Burning time waiting for a foul and playing not to lose. Typically, that's a recipe to lose.

Trading pts at the charity stripe right now. UNCW turns it over with a 7 pt lead. Spruill with a board.

1:04 to go. Timeout Hawks. Next Drexel foul puts us in the double bonus. Same for Drexel.

Well look at that. Drove it inside and an easy layup. It's not hard. Drexel's defense is non-existent.

Up 7 with 34 ticks. We should be good. Spruill to the line. Makes both. Up 9.

RE: Drexel
Yeah, I'd venture to say maybe since 2008? If not then, definitely 2006.

Also, we would have won by 10+ had it not been for a careless turnover at the end trying to be fancy and then a last second 3 by Drexel.

Great game though. This was the kind of statement win we should have made in both the last two home games, but I'll take both the wins. 3-1 in league play with some tough road games ahead. We've shown we can beat the best and defend Trask when we should. Things are looking up!

Go Hawks Go!

Just got back in to see the last 3 minutes. Talley is the FREAKING man at the end of the game. I feel great when he has the ball because he's fabulous and really understands the game. Team playing good ball boys! I'm going to get caught up on all of your posts later!!

It's not that important. I was bored and mostly just talking to myself with some play by play.

Yep, but not as ugly as the Delaware game. There was only one scare about midway through the first half when Drexel went on a little run following a substitution by Coach Keatts. We were up 10-4 at the time and Drexel was really struggling to score, at all. Defensively, we were shutting them down and our new athletic look was clearly out-performing them. That's when the substitution happened. Coach took CJ out and went with a smaller line-up to attempt to match up better with Drexel's quick guards. I don't think it was a necessary switch. It cost us quickly because that's when Drexel tied it up, took a lead, and we traded leads for about 4-5 minutes. Other than that, we outplayed them and Coach Keatts out coached 'ol Bruiser the rest of the way.

It was good to see a lot more folks in Trask too. You could hear the difference in the online feed.

There were a fair amount of students for a christmas vacation game. Excited for the game in two weeks against Towson when they are back full force. This team had potential to put a winning caa product on the court which is something that could really rally the students

RE: Drexel
I"ll just add this...CoastGuard you're the man! You were all over this game and I enjoyed reading your posts. Keep that up because it get EVERYBODY excited about our team. If I had one complaint, it would be about Ponder. Yes, CP does make some mistakes BUT he steps up BIG! We would have LOST the Delaware game without him. He was absolutely HUGE in that game. CP makes plays and players decide games. He make 2 CLUTCH and I mean CLUTCH FT's to put that game into OT and he shoots the 3 at a ridiculously good clip...like close to 50%. Southpaws have that ability, I'm one btw! We need CP to stay aggressive period and if he makes a mistake, so what? We don't have another CP and we won't win without him. Yes, I love Talley! Ain't gonna lie. What a freaking PG!!! He's a terrific closer. Absolutely tremendous player at a position that I know. He's a freaking keeper!!

Great job! You need a twitter account because your posts were absolutely terrific!!! Go Hawks!! And yes, this team has work to do because 16 TO's with 11 assists isn't a winning #. This club needs to get the TO's down to under 12 with 14 assists to be a contender in the end. Still, they have winning seniors and they are going to be force to be reckoned with in March.

RE: Drexel
Thanks Bill, that's a hell of a compliment coming from you. I've always enjoyed your thoughts on the program, especially the X's and O's. Mullet always has some good insight on in-game strategies and what not as well. We have a good group on this board. Solohawk is a genius when it comes to understanding NCAA policies/conference alignments, SeahawkNation08 brings an incredible all-around knowledge of UNCW sports and some impeccable sarcasm, and lots of other folks that bring the knowledge and make this place fun. What ever happened to Mrs. Cottonball??? She make the switch to this board?

With regards to Ponder, I'm 110% with you. My main issue was tonight he was not at his best to say the least. I agree that we can't win without him and I don't want him benched permanently, but when we have a guy like Talley it's hard to understand why Ponder was not reigned in tonight when it was clear his turnover prone weakness was being exploited by a weak Drexel squad. We're not going to be able to afford games like that when we play the meat of our conference schedule. Looking back on it now though, Talley has spent more than a few games this season in foul trouble. He's got to learn to play smart on defense so we have him for the whole game with no issues. I think that will come to him in time though. He's still a freshman, he'll figure it out.

How about Freddie freakin Jackson this year?! It's not often I'll agree with Bruiser Flint, but I think he was spot on when asked about how to deal with Freddie this year. The CAA is getting what we've been waiting for from him. Consistency. His first three years were marred by inconsistency on the offensive side of the ball, but this year he's been there for us and really stepping up. It's a toss up to me between his development and CJ's for "most improved" so far this year.
