RE: Elon
Elon has far better depth and bench strength than the Tribe. Tribe starters, except for Dixon, played very well; but the Elon Bench outscored the Tribe Bench by something like 47 - 7. None of the Elon players played over 30 minutes and very few over 25 minutes. The second five at Elon are just about as good as their starting five. This is not the case at W&M.

RE: Elon
Elon will be a tough out for any CAA squad. They play fundamentally sound and have a few terrific shooters. I actually thought they matched up with us evenly at times. When we play our defense for 40 minutes, that gives us the advantage over most other schools. Last night, to open the second half, we played lights out defense and allowed us to take and expand the lead. I think the first 7 or 8 mintues of the second half, Elon only had about 5 points with only one made field goal.

RE: Elon
Offense did not cost WM the game IMO. Regardless of bench versus starter points, we scored more than enough to win the game. We lost the game on defense, specifically transition defense and three point defense. Elon shot 48% from three point land. Samson and Bryant each hit 6 three pointers. We were late to close out on a number of their made 3's in the second half. Omar and Marcus were both caught flat footed checking for the screen and took their eyes of the shooter in front of them. We failed to recognize that both these guys were very comfortable launching from beyond the three point line and extend the defense out accordingly. Elon can and will beat anyone in the CAA on a given night with their ability to shoot. Well coached too.
It was a great game if you were a neutral spectator. We didn't play poorly, but once again failed to close out a road game. League is looking pretty balanced right now. I suspect whoever wins the conference is going to have at least three losses. Let's beat the Dukes!
Sensational effort from Tarpey being overshadowed by the loss. His best in the green and gold I believe (22 pts, 13 rbnds, 3 assists, 1 block, 1 steal). If he keeps scoring double digits, we are really going to be tough to beat. I hope he gets some CAA player of the week consideration.

Agreed. Not sure why we came out of the zone at all in the 2nd half. It was seemingly giving Elon fits to start the second half.

I think this is a little misleading because Bryant came off the bench. Before the game the Elon fans in front of us were explaining that he was their best player and that he definitely deserved to start. After last night I can see why. They were also super impressed by how unselfish Marcus was, especially in the first half. He ended up leading both teams in assists on the night.

Last year Tribe had a very strong bench because we brought Prewitt and Dixon in "off the bench". Prewitt was "Rookie of the Week" a number of times , and ultimately "Rookie of the Year" even though Omar was never a starter last year - although a lot of Tribe fans felt he should be starting - Elon's Bryant sounds like a very similar situation. I just hope we can beat Elon when they come to Kaplan.

RE: Elon
Elon hit every big shot in the second half when it counted. We didn't. They shot NBA three pointers that won't drop every night.
We will look back at this game like with High Point and want to have it as a win. Now we have two losses.
When it comes to crunch time we will have a lot more wins than Elon and should be in good position to make it to the NCAA Tourney. I have a lot of confidence in our team.
