Basically, he wants an 8-game playoff -- 16 ideal.

I agree. However, they fear it would make bowls lose their luster. They're going Very slowly at this.

I see an 8-game playoff coming in 3-5 years after this season. It's just whetting people's appetites. An 8-team playoff with the best G5 would be good. Ideally, a play-in game for the G5 -- the top two to face off.

two things who would judge the top two from the G5 to play-in? And once an eight team playoff is reality 2 power5 conference teams will have to play a 16 game schedule to win it all, 12 regular season, 1 conference championship and 3 playoff games. And we always say these are college athletes, so their season ends at the middle to end of January and spring ball starts in March or April, the Fall practice August 1st. I think they all need to be unionized and payed. rich get richer in this one, the schools

In Season length:
Football goes 4 or 5 months (including August)

Basketball goes 5 or 6 months (all during regular school sessions)

go back to 11 game season and invite all 10 conference champions + two more highly rated at large teams. Give the top 4 teams 1st week byes and then have the 4 "bye" teams to play the winners from playoff week #1 The long path is 4 wins and the short path is 3 wins.

Only two at larges???
OSU. Bama. Oregon. Baylor. Memphis. Florida State. NIU. Georgia Southern. Marshall. Boise State. TCU. Mississippi State. I'm sorry but 10 at larges (conservatively) are better than 5 of the 10 champs... I want a shot as much as the next G5 guy. But our shot needs to be because we are the best of the G5, not simply a G5 Champion of a league. No way would that ever happen. That's putting G5 on equal playing field of the P5... It shouldn't be on separate tiers but shouldn't be that equal either. If that was the format... big schools would be moving to smaller conferences so they could easily win the conference and make it to the playoffs.

Have to remember that if given this opportunity the recruiting will get more even and teams from g5 will be more competitive with p5. We need the opportunity !

We need to get equal before we are granted the chance to be equal.

We need to get rich before we are allowed money.

We need to get famous before we can be on tv.

Any other requirements?

Inviting conference champs works in basketball so why not football. I do not concede that the G5 conference champs should not be invited and neither should any of the G5 conference coaches, presidents, or commissioners. That's a defeatist attitude.

Go Rockets!

Yes, it's more like India. A caste system and the marriages are arranged. LOL.

RE: Air Force coach calls playoff format 'un American'
More unamerican than a system monopolized by the haves and greed? The playoff system is only 4 teams, because that is all the greedy 5 could agree on at the time. Which is now hilarious, because the Big12 got shut out. They wanted only 4 teams, so that the mid majors would dry up and blow away. They want a system where a Boise or a Northern Illinois never takes away from their piece of pie again. I'm sure it will get expanded sooner than 12 year agreement, probably next year. The pigs will be too worried if their conference will be the next to be left out.
