Should Mayor Bell hold a press conference?
A press conference regarding the impact of this week on the City of Birmingham of a diminishing, downward trending UAB. Trending thus in multiple regards; image, student recruitment, faculty retention (none want a downward trending university on their vitae), research dollars, economic impact, and donors. Play out the impact of this week in your mind. Such a trend for UAB is unavoidable. The University is likely soon to be in an intercollegiate conference of institutions none of which you could justly call a UAB peer.

This damage inflicted upon UAB by one delusional Mr. Watts. And just when he is learning to crawl as a university chief officer being called to serve the entirety of an institution. Words are not sufficient to delineate what Mr. Watts has done to the future of UAB and the totality of experiences that were to come. Indescribable.

RE: Should Mayor Bell hold a press conference?
Mayor Bell needs to have a meeting with his inspection services and police and fire departments and he needs to be telling them that UAB is a ZERO tolerance zone. Any and all issues will be need to be inforced to the maximum. Every Elevator needs to be gone through with a fine tooth comb, water quality needs to be inspected from every tap, ADA signage needs to be reviewed, fire plans need total review, cars need to be towed, food needs to be inspected (call over at the health Department and put in for some help) and any other regulation from the wage and labor board on down. If Ray Watts thinks he can ignore City And County Leaders then give him a dose of his own medicine and play the authority card and make UAB miserable. It won't be students in the street it will be the employees calling for a surrender. No Football. No Peace.

Bell is always talking about "being transparent", except, IMO, when it comes to these bastards who rain on his city's parade every chance they get...I'm for the press conference and some Q&A/TownHall dialogue with him, if he has the testicular fortitude to actually do one and answer the questions coming at him with outright honesty instead of elusive political sound bytes.

The City has spoken loud and clear. If there's a press conference that needs to take place it should include the Mayor Bell as well as all the other suburban mayors and state representatives to show solidarity and drive the point home.
