Any talk of where Clark may land? He seemed to do a great job this year in extremely tough circumstances at UAB.

Only that he isn't yet interested in the Samford job because they are a private school. He only need 2 more years of work at a public Alabama school to have full retirement benefits.

Some here really dislike that idea. On the other hand, while he failed Nebraska expectations by only winning games he should win and often getting blown out of the big games, anyone at KU who would do that would be seen in a much better light. Snyder at KSU has also become effective in big games against top teams, but the primary reason for his success is his relentless consistency to grind and win the games they're expected to win.

If that's the case, UAB could allow him to fill the vacant AD position for the next two years, since they are going to be paying him anyway. It's not like he will need to know anything about administration, since his predecessor is still on the payroll in the Athletic Department, and neither of them will be allowed to make the big decisions anyway.

I think he wants to coach somewhere. He could probably make a couple hundred thousand being a defensive assistant at Auburn.

None of whom count towards the 85 person scholarship limit nor the 25 person per class limit.

Do you not think that would be an unfair advantage?

Auburn might want to do that just to get in a PR dig at Bama.

These two examples are talking about baseball, but the same principal applies in all sports.

States with lottery money can offer in-state players who qualify for academic aid a better financial deal than Alabama and Auburn and save the 11.7 for out-of-state players.

"It's a huge advantage," Auburn coach John Pawlowski said. "When your scholarship dollars can be stretched and you have other resources to use, it makes an unbelievable difference."

One kid from my hometown walked on at Clemson a few years back and he was on a full academic ride. Another walked on at South Carolina with a partial academic ride and the rest a lottery scholarship. Neither counted towards the 85.

Unless you eliminate walkons altogether there is always going to be loopholes to be used with little if any possible sanctions.

True - look at this year for Nebraska:

Wins over:
7-5 Rutgers, Iowa
6-6 Fresno, Illinois, Miami (FL),
5-7 Northwestern
3-9 Purdue, FAU
FCS McNeese

Losses to:
8-4 Minnesota
10-2 Wisconsin, Michigan State

While at Illinois, or Kansas that would be a great year, for a national power, you have to win some of the tougher games. An Average coach should be able to win 8-9 games at a program like Nebraska. But average is not what they expect.

As long as the walk-on meets the criteria, yes. What Nebraska was being accused of is having scholarships that are supposed to go to a farm kid go to a walk-on from Omaha.

Getting a PAC guy tells me UNL already misses following Colorado around their recruiting trail. Perlman was desperate to join the B1G...I think they'd be better off in the PAC.

I won't claim to know a lot about it, so I will only go on what I have heard other Big 12 fans say. But apparently the vaunted walk-on program Nebraska had, which Texas apparently more or less forced be shutdown when the Big 12 was formed, was probably the biggest obstacle to their downfall. I had heard about it when I was younger, but I just thought they were local kids who would rather try to play at home then go elsewhere. I had no idea they were "walk-ons" who were really given scholarships, which created an unfair advantage.

If you have a pool of 50-100 guys you can work out and train, and not count towards your allotted scholarships, then skim the cream of the crop and add to your football team, that is a big plus. It's like having your own private JUCO, where you get all of the best players. It doesn't seem like much, but as successful as it was, if it added 2-3 players each year to their team (and sometimes more) who can contribute, that is a huge benefit over other teams. Sometimes football is a game of numbers. You have to recruit 25 players each year to find 15 who can contribute. Well if instead you are able to change that poll of players to 50, that changes the game.

Where did you get the information that Nebraska's walkons were given non-athletic scholarships? I can't find anything to support that. That would be a clear violation of NCAA rules. Nebraska's walkon program was not shut down, by Texas or anyone else. Under Pelini, 27 athletic scholarships were given to walkons. That is permitted as long as you don't exceed the 85 limit. Most major schools do this. Nebraska just recruits more kids to their walkon program than most schools do.

As it was explained, and forgive me I am going on memory (again from a Big 12 board a year or two ago, so take with a grain of salt, both the validity and my exact memory of it) , , the state of Nebraska had a special scholarship for certain types of students that were used to give hundreds of rural needy students college tuition. However the football program was supposedly able to put anyone they wished into the program. I.e. Their "walk-on" program were full of kids who were actually on scholarship to the school, who were "preferred walk-ons" as far as football is concerned, but they were not walk-ons. That is where the unfair advantage comes from. They could get kids to stay home and "walk-on" by offering them a scholarship.

Again, grain of salt. Passing along what was said.

this is nothing more than pure BS by people that need to blame Texas for their program falling apart

the only issue when the Big 12 was formed was partial qualifiers and the vote was 11-1 against partial qualifiers with Nebraska the lone vote for allowing them and all 11 other Big 12 programs against using them so it was not Texas forcing something unless 10 other Big 12 programs were so weak they allowed Texas to force them to vote differently than they wanted to

Nebraska has been away from Texas for four seasons now and they are still a perennial nobody and lose 4 games a year (maybe they will get over the hump and lose 3 this year with Bo not there for the bowl game) and now they had to hire an Oregon State retread that has never done anything of national significance

either Texas really knows how to kill top programs forever or NU just sucks and killed themselves with their obsession of what Texas is doing instead of worrying about what they are actually doing

What my earlier question was trying to get at was whether Nebraska was ever accused of wrongdoing, or whether that was just an incorrect inference on this site. I haven't come across any accusations doing a google search, but that could just be my lack of computer skills.
