RE: CAA about to become America East 2.0
Unless you get a Power 5 invite, moving up is an expensive and ultimately futile proposition.
ODU gets to vie with 2 dozen other teams for the Bojangles Fried Chicken Bowl in Topeka broadcast by ESPN U, the tuesday after Christmas at Noon.

I think your admin feels a sense of relief by what happened in Birmingham. Like, "See...THIS is why we didn't move up." Liberty has more money than they can count and only football matters to them. They'll take the bait. As you said, JMU, I think, will stay put until the dust clears. That's good for the CAA.
Liberty may get a shot, but as you said, they have blank checks until the online education federal funding crackdown occurs (it is coming) and shuts off that spigot. They would be wise to start preparing for that, as it was only 10 years ago that they were nearly bankrupt and done.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right now, the Fed are only cracking down on the "For Profit" schools, be they "On-Line" or otherwise. LU is a non-profit so it is in no more danger of a crack down than JMU. In fact, many schools are already delivering course materials on-line and that trend will continue because it can be a cost effective way of delivering course content.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
JMU isn't worried about becoming UAB. We're totally different institutions. We just want to move when the time is right. You shouldn't buy a home if you don't know who your neighbors will be.
Our AD told me last year (when we declined the SBC) that a lot of FBS teams were going to be hurting. You can pick out another 10-20 G5 schools that have low support, and are throwing $$$ hand over fist, for no appreciable return. The day of reckoning is coming.

RE: CAA about to become America East 2.0
You probably wish that you were America East 2.0. The league just sent its second fall team to a Final 4.......UMBC in men's soccer (joining Albany in field hockey). And of course there was Stony Brook in the CWS a few years ago. For all of the talk about the CAA this and the CAA that.......there just aren't many results to jaw about. Of course CAA football does have the #1 team that could win it all....UNH.....oh yeah, another AE school.

What is your problem?
Your school and our school are conference mates in football, and not conference mates in all-sports. That is ideal for both of our schools.
You don't want to be with us, and we don't want to be with you, in an all-sports league.
Again, what is your problem?
Most of us would take Albany and Stony Brook in an all-sports league in a heartbeat, and many of us would take UNH as part of the same deal ... and if Maine had to be taken to get Albany, Stony Brook, and UNH ... fine, nothing's perfect.
Capeche?

Jeff was annoyed for years by the Virginia focus of the CAA...the AE defectors that joined the CAA... and his distaste for the conference just never seems to go away. I think it galls him that Maine has no other football options, so he is stuck with us for that sport. In message board parlance he is the ultimate troll. He also has always been negative about Maine football coach Jack Cosgrove...a man I hold in high regard.

Come on guys......I'm just yanking your chain. You have to admit that it is ironic that you guys are still here and I am still here........through all of the change and turmoil. I have nothing but respect for William & Mary fans, your very prestigious academic institution and Coach Laycock who along with McDonnell at UNH has always been one of my favorite CAA coaches.
If only you guys didn't have so much hatred for Maine........

I believe-could be wrong-Jeff left Maine for California. This is what happens when you make your bed in a MJ-legal state. Neurons finally throw in the towel.

RE: CAA about to become America East 2.0
I had a dream once where I attended the University of Maine, if that counts for anything. Weird dream, since I never applied there nor have I stepped foot in the state.
