Mackin Resigns Today

At his request, UAB Athletic Director Brian Mackin has been reassigned from his position as athletic director to the newly created position of special assistant for Athletics. In this role, Mackin will be dedicated to assisting student athletes and coaches affected by the discontinuation of programs.
“While Brian has been leading the strategic review process for the Athletic Department, working closely with our consultants to inform and guide their analysis, he does not wish to lead our newly constituted Athletic Department,” Watts said. “I respect his decision and thank him for his 12 years of service. In his new role, Brian has a great opportunity to make this transition easier for the affected athletes and coaches as they work to make the best decisions for their futures.”
"... affected by the discontinuation of programs."
Did you guys notice that programs is plural?

Since I have no idea what Brian knew, when he knew it, or what he did about it, I'll choose not to condemn him for trying to support his family. (And regardless of what the Aubie's call each other, your family is at home, not at your job.)
And I doubt any of the "insiders" know the details of his dismissal, so I wouldn't put a lot of stock in "what you heard".
We do know that he directly lied to coach Clark and the players brought in over the last year. That is enough for me to say **** him.
Fact
Please do share all the "facts" you may have. A lot of people around here think they know something, so it becomes "facts".
For all we know, Brian was working like a dog to save football and when he couldn't, he resigned. If he was part of the evil saboteurs, why wouldn't he stay to lead the new and improved UAB athletic department? Seems he would have gotten that plumb job for pulling the trigger on football, right?
Until I see real proof that Brian lied to Coach and then threw the whole team under the bus, I'm not gonna throw him under the bus.
Whether or not he lied and was complicit in this is up for debate. What is not up for debate is the fact that he never went on the record to publicly support his student athletes. That's unconscionable and, rightly, opens him up to severe criticism of his performance as athletic director. He's a coward. He has no character. That's not the kind of person you want running any organization.

Blazerman is absolutely correct, and a simple look bears out that fact.
Look at UAB Athletics in February 2007 and look at UAB Athletics in December 2014. Show me any shred of leadership in that free fall.
Ray Watts fired the bullet today. And he did it in the most detached, disingenuous and disgusting way. But Brian Mackin bought the gun, found the bullets, loaded the gun and handed it over without objection the moment he was asked to.

Exactly. If I were a player looking for another school to transfer to, I would have to take my chances without Mackin's "help".
It's all BS anyway..... Nothing more than a reason to keep him on the payroll. To keep him on the leash. To keep him quiet. There are no intentions of Mackin helping anyone. He's done his helping.

It would/will be hard for Mackin to ever show his face again on campus.

“@CFBInsider_: Brian Mackin resigned because he did not agree with UAB's decision to cut the football program and he was pushing to keep it, per sources.”

I can buy that, but why not speak out on what he knows? That is my issue with Mackin.

If that's true, why isn't he on the news right now spilling the beans on this whole story. Sorry but I don't buy it. And don't give me any "taking care of his family" bull****. He wasn't making 30k for the last several years.

If he was pushing to keep it, he should have spoken up long before this happened. He should be ashamed to have ever worn green and gold.

If Mackin wants to salvage (what's left of) his legacy or good name, he knows what to do.

Of course he did. But someone fighting for something they don't agree with don't sign NDS.

AND...... I'm not sayin anything WAS done illegally, but if things WERE done illegally, he could sing like a canary without retribution - employment wise. He'd just have to always watch his back. V-e-r-y carefully and for a long time.
I wished he'd talk.

Say what?!
Who better to help guide those affected by the discontinuation of programs than the one who did nothing for them before they were discontinued.
All sorts of athletes were pissed when this news spread through the crowd today. "He's never done **** for us." was a common remark.
