If we need a replacement, I'm back to Coastal Carolina.

Once again Jeff ...The College of William & Mary has no plans or desire to leave The CAA.

And UConn a little ways down the list, too.

I have no idea what JMU's future plans entail, but you'd have to think the fates of former CAA teams going FBS would give them pause. Perhaps the JMU administrators are fiscally smarter than the students, fans, & alums pining for the move.

Delaware's de-emphasis of football is not helping things when it comes to retaining JMU as a CAA and FCS member.

It's really too bad we can't force URI to join for all sports as their FB program adds nothing in and of itself. I agree, invite no school that is unwilling to commit every sport...and, never, ever, never allow piece-of-trash GA State anywhere near a CAA campus again.

Oh, and JMU is CAA for life....just ask their admin.

Can we throw Richmond football out of the CAA while we're at it?

I'd be good adding them now, even if noone leaves. Brings us up to 12 football members and 10 basketball members.

I don't want Coastal at all. No history and no academics. I think I'd rather have no one

No to Coastal. Yes to Furman or anyone else who plays I-AA football and has a decent academic reputation.

This isn't the Ivy League. How is Coastal any different than ODU (no offense to them).

They are certainly a hot school right now.

Fair enough Sitting Bull. One difference with ODU is history. And who you seek to associate with is not necessarily subject to the same criteria as who you have associated with in the past....particularly when one considers geographic and historical factors.

I get the history from our perspective.

I was looking at in terms of the CAA. It adds an all sports member that happens to be pretty good in the key sports. They strengthen the southern flank, great links for CoC and UNCW. It's also a university that is on the rise and will get stronger over the years.

Myrtle Beach not bad either.

Who cares that Coastal isn't that great academically? Besides the Ivy and maybe (But doubtfully) the Patriot, an FCS conference isn't gonna bolster/hurt a school's academmic reputation. We're not gonna have applicants thinking we're a worse school because we played Coastal Carolina in football

RE: UAB (CUSA) to Drop FB Program?
If we really want an academic add the CAA would probably have to poach form the Patriot. Not sure any of those programs are gonna help strengthen the conference.

After the Patriot schools Wofford, Furman, or VMI would be the next best schools academically that would be potential adds. If JMU leaves, I'd love to add the Keydets to maintain a strong Virginia presence, personally. Liberty would work too, but I feel like they want to move up to the FBS and I don't like seeing the CAA become a stepping stone conference.

RE: UAB (CUSA) to Drop FB Program?
I agree with Tribal. At one point, I was in the CAA is falling apart camp. But now I think there is so much uncertainty. I don't expect the CAA to fall into shambles. If the Southern still existed after GSU and AppSt. left, the CAA will be fine. Plus, ODU, UMass, App St., and others are all irrelevant and losing tons of money each year now. If JMU does decide to go, or if Delaware decides to go, we will have decisions to make then. But the rants of a few fans(even a few hundred) doesn't relate to the Board of Visitors and their final choices. One win over a 1-A program doesn't make the jump a good move. If there was a natural geographical fit, then maybe. The move for VCU made more sense(they at least got Richmond) than the one ODU made. The best stability scenario would be for there to be an equal northern and southern wing for all sports. In that sense, full membership is better. However, I am fine with Richmond remaining in the CAA and would even take ODU back once they fail in Conference USA or due to lack of revenue. There is going to be a large hole in the middle once the Big 5 conferences do their own thing for football. But, remember TCU in the Big East? So, anything is possible. For us, the biggest concern is will we have enough alumni, community and student support to ever fill Zable on a regular basis, or get the Hall 75% full. Attendance was down at UVA and Tech this year and will be very low for basketball for Tech as well. So, it is a problem all through the state. Richmond had pitiful football attendance this year as well.

If it allows the CAA to remain in the top eschelon of FCS conferences, I am ok with expansion. From the Big South, only Liberty and CCU make sense. Both play all sports and are decent. Chuck South would be too close to COC.
