UAB would be a great add to the CAA.
So, the CAA is really in good shape except that it could use a strong MBB program. It seems to me that UAB would certainly fill that requirement nicely.
Are you proposing a trade ... JMU for UAB?
No
I am hoping we keep UAB anyway.

RE: UAB (CUSA) to Drop FB Program?
UAB? There isn't a chance in the world the CAA invites them. Maybe the SoCon.
I like Fordham for all sports and maybe VMI but that's a short list. The CAA is a desired destination for most programs in the NEC, SoCon, and BigSouth so don't think for a minute the CAA is going anywhere.

I don't think we would invite them, but I think UAB would be a good add.

I don't want UAB at all. It would be Georgia State all over again except further away.

How would it be Georgia State? UAB has bigger athletics than GSU, and tends to have a respectable men's basketball program

Yeah- with an Elite 8, two more Sweet 16s, and seven times as many tournament appearances as GSU, I'm not sure where that comparison is coming from.

I don't think it was the quality of sports program, more the travel headache.

That's really all I meant. There's no reason to travel all the way to Birmingham.

Only MJ would believe anyone would stay loyal to that dumpster fire, AEast. That's why he hangs around here.
That's just plain mean. You might be bright.....but you're also an a-hole.
Merry Christmas!

Well either way.....they're not coming......so you better hope that JMU stays. If JMU leaves, your pickings will get even slimmer. You really think that someone wants to join this North/South, Public/Private hodge podge of mediocrity???

JMU leaving is more of an issue for football. Their basketball team is nothing special.
And I wouldn't be so confident that an American East team wouldn't jump ship given the offer. SBU wanted to but was blocked, seems like schools aren't as loyal to the AE as you think

Columbia has lost 21 in a row in football and 37 of their last 40. Yesterday they fired their coach because he abused his players and sent guys with concussions out to play.
There are many at the university who want to drop football.
Hey, chance for W&M to join the Ivy League?
A pipe dream of course, but perhaps the perfect league for the Tribe.

MJ knows that. Almost half the CAA consists of ex AE teams, basically their old top tier. They even lost a team to the Patriot recently.
Problem is, there's not much left that appealing. Maybe UNH down the road. UAlbany and SBU seem to flirt with going elsewhere, no loyalty there.
The CAA has better add options now in the Mid Atlantic and South, if even needed.
MJ is here because he wants Maine in the discussion, and that's NOT happening.

LOL........how come you fail to analyze what will be left in the CAA after JMU leaves??? I think that you have become delusional as to what the CAA has become......seriously. I don't blame you for defending your league as it is all you've got and obviously W&M is getting no invites to any conference excpet possibly one of the weakest all-sports conferences in the country (Patriot). Nope.....Maine, UNH, Albany and Stony brook have what they want.......CAA Football membership. America East is tight geographically, solid acaemically, achieving success in Olympic sports that the CAA could only dream of (Final 4 in field hockey and men's soccer this year......CWS a few years ago), associate members like Stanford and Cal, etc.
Good luck to you guys......I hope that your administration does not turn down the impending Patriot invite as it might be your only hope to get rescued from the mess that Tom Yeager has created......Elon? C of C?......combined with programs like Drexel, Towson, Hofstra......yikes! No one wants to be a part of your ever weakening mish mash with extreme travel expenses.
