Tell that to the ESPN owned bowl in Montgomery. The one in Mobile is independent.
No, I was seriously asking a question.

there were some bad calls against TXST when they played Navy... we got behind very quick because of them. spent the rest of the game trying to catch up.
definitely fishy officiating favoring this service academy.
Navy didn't have a single penalty against us. You definitely had that feeling you weren't going to get any calls.
That's the norm for Navy ... there must be some reason they don't get called for a lot of penalties. Just can't quite place my finger on it ...

It may come down to which school -- USA or Texas St.-- will agree to pay for a certain amount of tickets. Honestly if Ga. Southern had a chance to go to Mobile or Montgomery I would hope our fan base would turn out in big numbers (at least 12,000). So I am hoping if Texas St. or USA or both get to go bowling their fan bases will support it in a big way also.

It depends on how much ESPN needs to subsidize the bowl. If there's a small subsidy, who cares if the stadium is empty. If not, they might need to fill some seats.

I'm interested in finding out what the attendance was tonight.
We had 32,007 when Navy came to San Marcos earlier this season.

Ours wasn't that high. But then again, I think USA would bring more fans to Ladd Stadium or the Crampton Bowl than Texas State. And USA has a lot more alumni in Montgomery than Texas State does.

You stadium doesn't hold 30k, does it?
And yeah, I'd wager USA would bring more fans to either of those bowls than Texas State. Which is why I don't think the attendance on that game is all that important.
I'm still holding out hope that we get an invite to a bowl in Fort Worth, which opens up an Alabama bowl for USA. That GUARANTEES 4 bowling teams for the Sun Belt.
I think given the way the climate is going (who looks like will be needing a team, proximity to those bowls, etc), Texas State will be more attractive than USA.

Go ahead and compare all you want, but it's hard to make a valid comparison. Your game was early in the season, and ours was last game of the season on a holiday weekend. Navy didn't bring their band or cheerleaders as they had Thanksgiving off. USA student attendance was sparse as most students were out of town for Thanksgiving. It looks like attendance was listed at 14,571, which is disappointing, but it seemed more like 19-20k. I've never understood how we count numbers, but it definitely isn't the same way other schools count.

USA scored a TD to make it 42-40 Navy. USA converted the 2-point conversion and had a flag thrown for ineligible receiver. USA got backed up 5 yards. USA converted the 2-point conversation a second time. This time the refs threw a flag for holding. USA was backed up 10 additional yards. USA didn't convert the 3rd 2-point conversion. Ball game.
Did those flags look warranted to those watching? These were AAC refs. They were good most of the game.
I would just LOVE it if someone can explain to me how a team on the 2 yard line can POSSIBLY have an ineligible receiver downfield???!!!

The EZ is 10 yards deep. That's the answer to your question.

Yea, an afternoon game, in the middle of the day, when half the people have to work, the students are gone, and on a holiday weekend? Who decided this would be on a Friday?

I'm sure our admin didn't want to compete with the Alabama-Auburn game.

Then play the stupid thing at NIGHT. I fail to understand why USA insists on putting the games at dumb times of the day. Don't compete with Alabama v Auburn, fine. But any other weekend, play the game on Saturday night. Especially in September when its 1000 degrees

Night games (starting at 6:00 and later) just aren't well attended. If it's a night game we need to go back to 4:00 kickoffs (if we have control). But it's a Friday and the high school playoffs are going on. There are several huge matchups in our area deciding who goes to the championship games.

I keep telling y'all the mississippi state game killed enthusiasm. Mismanagement + boring, unexciting offense = no one cares to come. We had 40k people and chance to really hook some fans and blew it.

Not to mention the 3 people in front of me did not have their tickets scanned due to scanner issues.... Not sure if this was just a one time problem or not. There is no way there was only 14k. There was at least 18-19k.

I give South Alabama alot of credit for getting Miss. St. and Navy to come to Mobile this year. We keep hoping for home games like these at Ga. Southern.

Apparently a lot of people's tickets weren't scanned today. Issues with the scanners again. We seem to be the only team in the country that under-reports attendance (not that this was an issue this season, only this game). We only count scanned tickets since the NCAA made a deal out of Ladd's counting method, and since tickets weren't scanned they weren't counted. We HAVE to get that fixed.

this isn't directed at you skully, so don't take it personally, but I am really tired of hearing that excuse. If we can't get some damn scanners to work like every other school in the nation, I don't know what to think.
