TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — Coach Paul Bear Bryant was the stuff of legends. He is widely considered to be the greatest coach of all time with 323 wins and 6 national championships under his belt. WIAT 42′s own Leigh Garner had the honor of sitting down to a rare and exclusive interview with his son, Paul Bryant Junior.
Bryant shares his own insights on football, his famous coach father, and Alabama’s new championship streak, not to mention memories of a team that’s close to Bryant’s heart. It’s the 50 year anniversary of the tide’s 1964 national championship team, and Bryant was friends with many of the players, since he was in college at Alabama at the same time.
“I’m like everybody else. As a fan that–I would like to have been doing that, without all the work they’d been through,” explains Bryant. “You know, they really had real demands on their time and demands on them physically, and they made sacrifices to play football.”
